Jinashi Style Shak by Ken LaCosse This 1.8 (key of D) "refined bore" shakuhachi was made from a culm of the decorative phyllostachys aurea root bamboo (often called fish pole bamboo). The short, swollen internodes and the zigzag basal nodes are characteristic of this species. This bamboo is very hard, dense, and durable. For such an unusual node arrangement, the holes of this flute fall in a very pleasing location. It is also very comfortable to hold and play. The bore of this flute was sealed with black urushi (lacquer) after having been built-up slightly in certain areas to improve the tone. |
