BLOEMERS

HERMINA B LOEMERS came to the United States during the migration of the Dutch "seceders" in the middle 1800's. At this point I do not know who her family was or when or how she came to the USA but I have reason to suspect that her father was Albert Bloemers, also of Holland, Ottawa, MI and that she came here aboard the "Chespeake" out of Rotterdam about 1846.

Hermina married Jan Schaap at St. Louis on 14 FEB 1847, not very long after Jan arrived at New Orleans. It may be that they knew each other in the Netherlands. They traveled north to Holland, Ottawa, MI, where they settled with other Dutch, among them a Bloemers family but I have made no connection other than circumstantial.

Hermina died 14 APR 1896 at Blunt, Hughes, SD.  Her age was 73 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

From the Blunt Advocate, Blunt, SD, Friday, April 17, 1896:

HARROLD

A number of old residents here attended the funeral of Mrs. Schaap, in Blunt today. Death had been long desired and came as a welcome relief while her steadfast trust and christian character robbed it of all it's terrors.
