South_Ethiopia 1 Travelling in the south is very tiring. Outside the capital, very soon the roads are no longer paved, but simply gravel. As long as there are no holes in it it isn't a problem, but even the gravel disappears and then sand -if any- remains. Most of those roads can only be driven by 4x4 jeeps. Hotels are getting rare and the quality goes down the further we go south, until we only have our tents to sleep in for some nights. That isn't so bad, because the hotels are below standard, no water or no hot water, no toilet or no light, or none of these at all. The food is a different story. Next to the local food (injera) we could only get spaghetti with tomato sauce, heritage of the Italian occupation in the thirties of the last century. In the bigger cities there is of course more variety in food and in the capital there are many restaurants with a wide choice. |
