Cairns-Townsville

After a 19 hour flight, with a three days break in Kuala Lumpur, we arrived at Brisbane on the second of September. From Brisbane we had an inland flight to Cairns in the North of Queensland, where we started our Australian holiday with a 5-day stay. The second day we visited Kuranda. We went up by the Kuranda train and down by skyrail, which goes just over the rainforest. The next day we visited Fletcher Botanic Gardens (beautiful) and the Royal Flying Doctors Information Centre, which was interesting. The Atherton Tablelands was our goal on the fourth day. Very nice highland with beautiful waterfalls, lakes and villages. The last day around Cairns we went to Daintree, the last village before you go to the impassable rainforest in the North of Queensland, where we had a boat trip on the Daintree river with its big crocodiles. On Sunday 7 September, we actually went "on route" to Sydney, where we had to deliver the rental car. Our first stop was Townsville with its famous "Hill", nice Queens Gardens and the beautiful Aquarium. On Tuesday, 9 September we went by catamaran boat to the famousGreat Barrier Reef, where we could dive, snorkel or simply relax. We were lucky that the water level was extremely low and the reef came above sea level - wonderful!
