"To describe my paintings briefly they are of people done larger than life and in vivid colors using bold strokes," says visual artist Geraldine Martinez. A native of Ormoc City in the Philippine islands she took up Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Cebu College, "by majoring in painting I was able to continue my childhood penchant for telling stories through pictures. Only this time instead of pencil, pages of my notebook, making doodles on just pure instinct and pleasure I now use oil, canvas and school/self learned techniques but with as much enthusiasm, emotions and getting the same sense of fulfillment everytime I put down my brush to call it a day."
She regrets not being more prolific in the past years having been Senior Designer for Sanrio of Gift Gate Inc. in Manila for 5 years and a Merchandising Manager for the Cebu based USA Sports, Inc. for more than a year, "working 8 hours a day 6 times a week leaves little energy to indulge in painting which can also be
physically, emotionally and mentally demanding." |

She vows to make up for lost time and be more active in the art scene, "it's not as if I have much choice, there will always be this voice inside nagging to paint the stories of the people around me, be they a farmer's son munching on a macopa, an anxiety-filled old man of the culturally threathened Ifugao tribe or a world-weary nude model past her prime."
She garnered 3rd place in the 1991 Jose Joya Painting Competition. She has also taken some units in MA Art Sudies in UP Diliman, facilitated in 7 summer art workshops and worked as a designer with a Taiwanese company based in Shenzhen, China. This former member of the the Cebu Arts Association is now based in Illinois.
