Maritess In Malong, 1989
oil on canvas
32"x48"
Property Of The Artist

My first serious painting. This painting depicts a young girl doing a stance in a malong dance. A malong is a colorful tubelike blanket with various uses, considered an indespensible item mostly by the people in southern part of the Philippines. It can be used as a skirt, sarong, cradle and believe you me, a portable toilet.
Old Ifugao Man,  1990
mixed media on wood
36"x48"
Property Of Dr. Vincent Garcia, Cebu PI

***3rd Place Jose Joya Painting Competition

An Ifugao is a culturally threatened ethnic tribe in the northern parts of the Philippines, in the areas where giant rice terraces are located.
Stella Eating Corn, 1990
mixed media on wood
32"x48"
Property of Estela Fernandez Cebu PI

It has been observed that Filipinos just love to eat. Eating for us is not just for sustenance but also as a means to socialize as well. Stella was a fellow fine arts students showing what filipinos do best:)
