The proposed 60,000m2 Hong Kong Design Institute is surrounded by skyrises and mountains in the distance. Stacked and offset building modules not only provide structural stability and an economical means of construction, but also allow for mixed indoor and outdoor spaces. Class rooms, exhibition spaces and lounges are interspersed with open-air terraces and cascading balconies. A public space nested within the building provides a stage for art, entertainment, academic activities, and the animated flow of students and visitors moving through the building.
