WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

A VERY good pain.

"Smackdown: Here comes the Pain" is nothing new... but it presents such a good game, that it all feels so fresh. Sorry this is a late review but X-mas is coming up and 3 wrestling games were released. Buy this one, I played the demo of all three in a store and went out and rented the one I enjoyed most, Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain...I was not dissapointed. Now, I have played many wrestling games in my time.... ok... actually only 4, but still.... this is the most fun I've had with one of them. It doesn't have the best grappling system, or the best melding, but it does so many things right, this is EASILY the best wrestling game this year.
First off, the graphics are good.... and BAD. Good, because the models are so accurate down to the foot size. (No I don't watch wrestling. Yes, I have seen pictures of the wrestlers.) But the melding when grappling is so bad, ugghhh. It gave me a headache. And you'll see what I mean if you make the Hulk as a wrestler. He passes right through the rope. I mean... other wrestling games try to stop that but it's like Yuke's didn't even care about it.
The control is just like other wrestling games... reponsive if at sometimes iffy. But a hell of alot better than X-Box's WWE RAW 2. Hit detection is great. and almost all environment interaction commands are solved by the square button.
The sound is very well done and is just about all rock. But there is NO voice acting.... yep... ya gotta read. Basically... you like it or you don't. The wrestler entrances are great and you can even make one for a created wrestler.... as always.
Let's talk about making your own character. This is by far one of the best i've seen. Just like in past installment's, you can even make your character green. The options are limitless. Also the sory mode is amazing. Every character has a different story. So you casn clock in about 500 hours with this. Unless if for some reason if you get bored.
This is the most fun Wrestling game of the year and it shows. Rent it now... or put it on that special list.

                                                   City Girls

Not revolutionary but effective.

Welcome to my preview of City Girls, a pretty fun if
un-revolutionary game. The early preview build showed solid controls and fun frantic gameplay. So with that, let's get this prereview goin'!
The preview had solid control... if a bit awkward. You can jump through the air side to side like Max Payne and press your back against walls like Snake. But no stealth's involved. You start right into the action. You start out with a shock gun but quickly find real guns dropped by the guards.
The graphics are probably the most simple of all the games in this new generation. And I felt that I was going in circles. This leads to one factor that I hope is changed before the game goes gold. I mean... how many freakin corridors must I walk/shoot/run/fight through? And even though it was fun the first 25 times... shooting and jumping sideways will get old. Well, unless they include bullet time.
The music is almost absent and when you can hear it, you will wish your ears were bleeding. I also would like to say that my partner was the weirdest most unsteryotipical male I have ever heard in my life.
Before I get to the last paragraph, I would like to say that in the demo level, towards the end you hacked into a computer and fought these silver ballish viruses. It was extremely cool because in here you could slow down time and fought with your hands. However... very linear
Remember, this is a preview and all subject matter has a chance to change. And there still is another character to play as.
Wait for the review, next year. With that...I leave you with two recomendations of where to find pictures...
