Going in to Viewtiful Joe I find a super fun game with great replay value. But Viewtiful Joe is much more than that, it's one of the most idiotic, retarded, gay, looking games on video game store's shelf (next to cubivore, which is hard to find anyway). But don't let the candy coated covering fool you. This is one of the best action games I have ever played. Let's start off with the icing on the cake of this game, the graphics. Now, I stated that this game looks stupid, but that is not true. I am coming from the perspective of other's (15 up). But the graphics in this game in my opinion are downright awesome. Most games just put cell-shading in to make the game look unique, but it SO matches VJ that you would think it was made for it. I swear I feel like watching an anime movie or some kind of pop-up manga. And though flat objects are abound, they look unique and not rushed. VJ has amazingly detailed environments. The fun factor in VJ is also great. Unlike the Enter the Matrix game, VJ never seems to get old. The combos are unbelievable and must be witnessed in person to be believed. Here, I'll give you a taste of one of the combo's I did. I punched an enemy up in the air, zoomed in, slowed down time, laid a flurry of punches on to two other foe's skulls, then a second wave of enemies closed in, the guy who I punched up into the air fell back down and before he hit the ground, while still in zoom and slow-mo, I did a spin kick. But that's not all, after vanquishing 5 foes, another wave of 3 foes came on me like flies on a cow's back. I zoomed out and sped up time, and within less than 1 minute, I had defeated 8 enemies. Cool? Yes! Complicated? No. But therein lies the 1st downside to VJ, it's difficulty. That has GOT to hurt! The first level big boss, also the easiest Basically, after half way through the game, if you didn't master the power of VFX soon, you will have you ass handed to you. In fact, sometimes even if you do, you will have your ass handed to you still. For example, in one level, I had to fight some super strong enemies, then right after that a jet, then a tank, and the blasted jet again. But don't worry, that's the 5th level, and the bosses are the only BIG challenge. Soon you'll figure out that in order to efficently destroy the tank, you need to hit it's bullets back at it, however, you could also buy some bombs at the power up store and take em out with that, or you could buy Viewtiful Forever dodge and do that with a bullet close to him. Yep, there are tons of ways to defeat enemies. But still, it is difficult, so learn to master your moves. But remember people, this is made by Capcom, the makers of another usually fickin hard series, Megaman. (Which I make comics on) |

Okay, your still down for a challenge, good, because even though this game is hard at times, it is so fun. I mean, super fun. Why? Because of the VFX powers. But they can only be fun if you can do them with ease, and you can. This game has EXCELLENT control. L-slow, R-mach speed, b or
c down-zoom. It's as simple as that. While in VJ mode, you can double jump, you can punch and kick harder, and pull off bought moves. Oh, I forgot to mention that while you play as normal Joe, the screen is all grainy and it looks old, switch to VJ and it looks brand new. Joe a go-go!! The 2nd downside to VJ is that it is too short. That feature is easily made up by its replay ability with the unlock-able characters. It is really fun and cool once you master it. The bosses in the game are the usual Capcom freaks, but at least they aren't called Dive-Man, Wacko-Man, or Grass-Man. Also, the story is ridiculous but still has its funny moments. He's playable after beating the game the game in V-rated mode. However, not available at the start. The music in VJ is just downright weird, sometimes annoying, sometimes catchy. There's an unlockable rap/rock music video that's in Japanese, but it has a catchy tune. Basically, it comes down to this. If you have a Gamecube, you have to play this game, rent or buy. If you don't have a Gamecube, this might be the reason to buy one. It's downsides are pretty much minimal. Viewtiful Joe is a masterpiece of gaming experience. This is what developers should look at when they want to make a great game that's legacy will live on.
