| South Arran and Glenashdale |
| Route in brief 47km, 600m climb, some lovely views. For the more adventurous leave the ferry to the left cycling toward Lamlash and after half a kilometer turn left toward South Corriegills. At the last cottage go through the small wooden gate on the right of the track. Push up to Dun Fionn and follow the cliff edge to Clauchlands point then into Lamlash along the coast. Push up to Dun Fionn and follow the cliff edge to Clauchlands point then into Lamlash along the coast. The other alternative is to take the main road from the ferry at Brodickand go directly over the hill to Lamlash. Turn off the main road at the hairpin bend at Monamore bridge on to the Ross road. Turn left after 1/2 km into the forest. At this point there is a forest walk to the right of the forest track, which is quite entertaining. Keep right above Glen Ashdale after 5km and then go left after another 5km, keeping Auchareoch, in the open area, on the right, in 300m go left again and descend to the main road. Refreshments are available at Lagg hotel or tearoom. Use the main road to Whiting bay with a detour to Kildonan if desired, giving an additional 120m of climb. At Whiting Bay take the footpath to Glenashdale falls and continue climbing (push) to rejoin the forest road. Return to Lamlash by the reverse route. Climb out of Lamlash on the A841 and at the forest walks at the top of the climb turn off to the right and follow the footpath over Claughland Hills, ensuring you climb the small heathery rise, just before the highest point, to get the view over Brodick and Lamlash bays. From the top continue east to the edge of the forest and turn left toward Brodick and the start. |
