John Henry MANN, born 16 May 1861, Huff Township, Spencer County, Indiana, son of Andreas Frederick and Katherine (LEISTNER) MANN. (See Chapter 3) He died 25 May 1930, Shattuc, Clinton County, Illinois. He is buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Central City, Marion County, Illinois.
John married Nancy Elizabeth WEDEL 27 Apr 1887 at her mother's home in Meridan Township, Clinton County, Illinois. She was born 22 Mar 1867, Clinton County, Illinois, daughter of Herman Frederick and Wilhamenia (WHERNHART) WEDEL. She died 20 Oct 1943, Clinton County, Illinois. Nancy�s siblings were Mary Sophrona (WEDEL) AHLF, Henrietta (WEDEL) HAGEDOM, Wilhelmina C. �Minnie� (WEDEL) MERTEN, Helena (WEDEL) HEINRICH, Emily WEDEL, Fredrick WEDEL and Frank WEDEL.
In 1885, John became the first resident of what would be Shattuc, Clinton County, Illinois. The only building there when he moved there was the B&O Depot. He built a home and blacksmith shop.
In 1887, John built an addition onto his home.
On 9 Mar 1898, the Keyesport Journal has, "Julius MERTEN and John MANN made business trips to Centralia Monday."
In 1899, John tore down his old blacksmith shop and built a new one. It was a two-story blacksmith and wagon shop, 26 wide by 50 long.
On 22 Apr 1910, the census shows John (48) and Nancy E. (42) MANS living in the Village of Shattuc, Meridian Township, Clinton County, Illinois. With them were their children Fred age 21, Edith age 19, Otto age 17, George age 15, Asy age 12 and Edith age 10. Also with them was Nancy�s widowed 78 year old mother, Wilhemina WEIDLE age 78. Nancy had given birth to 6 children with all living. John owned his farm free of mortgage. He was a Blacksmith and owned his own shop.

Fred married Fannie Alvina NOLLER 12 Jun 1921. She was born 23 Jul 1890, Meridian Township, Clinton County, Illinois, daughter of Louis John and Elizabeth Katharine (SPEISER) NOLLER. She died Saturday, 4 Mar 1989, Central City, Marion County, Illinois. Funeral was at Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Sandoval.
On 5 Jun 1917, Fred's World War 1 Draft Registration Card has, Andrew Fred MANN age 29, born 22 Jun 1888, Shattuc, Clinton County, Illinois. He was living in Shattuc. He had served in Illinois National Guard. He was slim with medium height. He had brown eyes and brown hair.
Fred served in the United States Army, the Rainbow Division, during World War 1.
From 1925 to 1948, Fred was the Postmaster of Shattuc.
He bought 1/2 interest in O. C. KEISTER�s store. He later had his own store.
On 26 Apr 1930, the census shows Fred (42) and Fannie (40) MANN living in Shattuc, Clinton County, Illinois. With them was their son Clifford age 7. Fred was 32 and Fannie 30 when they married. Fred owned his own home and it was valued at $4,000.00. He didn�t have a radio. Fred was a merchant and owned a general store. Fred served in World War 1.
Fannie belonged to the United Methodist Church, which was and still is the only church in the Village of Shattuc.
Fannie lived her last eight years at Fireside Nursing Home in Centralia, Marion County, Illinois.

On 12 Apr 1930, the census shows Otto (38) and Ethel (31) MANN and daughter Mildred age 10 living at 1419/1409 Sunset Blvd in Royal Oak City, Oakland County, Michigan. Otto owned his own home which was valued at $18,000.00. He owned a radio. Otto was a realtor. Otto served in World War 1.

George married Elsie Marie BEHRENS. She was born 28 Feb 1896, Arkansas, daughter of Fred and Adele (RITZEN) BEHRENS. She died 21 Oct 1970, Roseville, California.

In Dec 1955, Elsie and son Kenneth sold the store to R. E. BEHRENS.

He handled tractors, all kinds of farm machinery and was Studebaker agent for many years until his retirement in 1950.
On 10 Jan 1930, the Carlyle Union Banner has, �Mr. and Mrs. Asa MANN drove to Columbus, Ohio Friday. Mr. MANN delivered a Studebaker Sedan to a purchaser in Columbus, then went to South Bend, Indiana and drove home a new Erskine Coach. While in Columbus they attended a banquet given by Ben DIAL to his employees.�
