Marty McFly
Despite Strickland's 'advice' and the detention he was given, Marty arrives at the hall just in time for The Pinheads' audition.
The group quickly goes into their signature cover song
The Power of Love, both Marty and the band as well as Jennifer think they whole thing's going great!
However, they didn't notice that they judges were looking less than impressed, at least until the Head Judge stands up and calls for a halt, announcing.
"Sorry, fellas, I'm afraid you just too darn loud."
The Pinheads, Marty and Jennifer are crushed by the bad news, Marty in fact can't believe that they've been rejected!
After the audition Marty and Jennifer walk through the Town Square mulling over the depressing events of the day, or rather Marty is. He's sure that this rejection has ended any hope he has of a singer career, Jennifer on the other hand tries to lift his spirits by pointing out that "one rejection isn't the end of the world." She also advises him to send in the demo tape he and the band made and reminds him of his friend Doc Brown's inspiring advice.
"If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything."
Marty doesn't seem to be to inspired however (as well as also being distracted by two girls from Lou's Aerobic Fitness Centre) and responds.
"What if I send it in and they don't like it, what if they say I'm no good? What if they say get out of here, kid, you've got no future? I just don't think I can take that kind of rejection."
Marty suddenly stops short, he realises he sounds just like his old man!
While Marty is horrified by this realisation, Jennifer points out his father's not that bad since he's letting them have the car tomorrow night. Marty however is distracted by beautiful sight- a Toyota 4X4, his dream car!
He shares his dream with Jennifer, of the two of them been able to go up to the lake in style with that car- but Jennifer is more concerned about what Marty has told his mother about the date. Marty is forced to admit he's told his mother that he's camping with the guy, but only because:
"I'd get the standard lecture about how she never did that sort of stuff as a kid. I mean, I think the woman was born a nun."
Jennifer jokes that Marty's mother is just trying to keep him respectable.
"She's not doing a very good job, is she?" Marty jokes.
"Terrible."
The two are about to kiss when they are interrupted by a can been shaken at him. they turn to see a middle-aged woman, bellowing at them to "'Save the Clock Tower'!"
The Lady goes on about how Hill Valley's Clock Tower, which was struck by lightening 30 years ago and hasn't run since- the Mayor of Hill Valley is planning to replace the clock, but as the lady says:
"We at the Hill Valley Presevation Society believes it should remain
exactly the way it is! As part of our history and heritage!"
Marty and Jennifer actually don't care that much, but Marty gives her a quarter to get rid of her. Which thankful works, she departs giving them a flyer with info on the Clock Tower.
Someday, Jennifer...Someday
Once again though, they're interrupted by the arrival of Jennifer's father who's come to drive her to her Grandma's for the evening. Realising that Marty doesn't have her Grandmother's numer so won't be able to call her, she hurries over to write down the number on the flier, not so useless after all.
The phone number safetly in hand, Marty gives Jennifer a goodbye kiss and watches as she leaves and is extremely happy by the quick message she added to the phone number. "I love you!"
The day is suddenly looking a whole lot better as Marty once again hitches a ride home with the good fellows of the Hill Valley Police.
