Marty McFly
Did You Know How Important This Was To Me...?
Upon his arrival home, Marty discovers his worst nightmare has come true, the family car has been wrecked, his father was bullied into letting his supervisior, Biff Tannen borrow it and Biff crashed it. Marty is just in time to see Biff laying into his father, blaming him for his own drinking and driving and wanting him to pay for drycleaning!
After telling off Dadfor only having Light Beer in his fridge, Biff comes face to face with Marty, who doesn't try to hide how pissed off he is by what Biff has done. Biff's response however, is the same as it always is to anyone he doesn't like.
"Well, what are you lookin' at, butthead?"
Followed by a comment especially reserved for the McFly children.
"Say hi to your mom for me."
Not only that but Biff also relies on Marty's father to do his reports for him, Marty has to watch while the bully threatens Dad (not a hard task) to get the reports the next day.
Always a chidish bully, Biff even plays the old 'Your shoes untied' trick, which to Marty's chagrin his father actually falls for!
As soon as Biff leaves, Daf tries to apologise to Marty with a rather weak excuse.
"I'm not very good at...
confrontations."
Marty isn't about to take that for an answer and reminds his father that he was supposed t o have the car the next night, and it was really important to him.
All his father can do, though, is apologise weakly.
Things just seems to get worse for Marty after revealing his bad news about the band audition his father tries to tell him it's for the best because it's better not having all the aggravation and headaches of playing at the dance. Marty's big brother Dave joins in half-mocking Marty, half-mocking their father, but either way not very helpful, of course like Dad he's more interested in watching the 'Jackie Gleeson' show.
At least until Mom, who's looking a little tipsy all ready interrupts with bad news about Uncle Joey who hasn't made parole again.
Mom's suggestion that the kids all call Uncle Joey with support causes a bit of an arguement since at least according to Linda "It's a major embarrassment having an uncle in prison."
The old arguement is luckily ended by Dave leaving for work, but another arguement begins when Linda mentions that Jennifer has called Marty twice while he was outside "pouting over the car."
Mom of course is upset at such behaviour going into her old lecture:
"I think it's terrible, girls chasing boys. When I was your age I never called a boy, or chased a boy, or sat in a parked car with a boy."
Linda points out the obvious flaw with this idea, how can she met someone...which leads of course to the dreaded story of how Mom and Dad met 30 years ago. Mom relishes the retelling of the tale, but Dad doesn't seem to care.
That might be due to the fact that Dad meant Mom when Grandpa Baines hit him with the car! After he was brought inside Mom felt sorry for him.
"He looked so helpless, like a little lost puppy."
On November 12th the two went to the
Enchantment Under the Sea Dance at school, the night of the terrible Hill Valley thunderstorm.
"Your father kissed me for the very first time on that dance floor, it was then I realised I was going to spend th rest of my life with him."
At that moment, Dad sees something hilarious on the TV and laughs mindlessly.
Marty and Linda look at each other, then at Mom it doesn't seem like it was the best choice.
