ELITE COMMAND SQUADS

by George Spiggott

Hardened Veteran Command Squad

If a Regiment has been on several campaigns or has access to superior training methods it may have a higher than normal number of veterans. Sometimes enough veterans will be available to form platoons of veterans. The officer of these platoons is often a former NCO who has worked his way through the ranks. He will be accompanied by the most able specialists from the platoon.

Regimental Doctrines: A Hardened veteran command squad may only be used in Imperial Guard armies that make use of the regimental doctrines system (see the Imperial Guard codex page #55). Hardened veteran command squads are restricted troops and take up one of your Doctrine points if you wish to include one in your Imperial Guard army. In addition you must also take the Veterans regimental doctrine before you can include a Hardened veteran command squad in your army.

Organisation: Hardened veteran command squads are an Elites choice for an Imperial Guard army but do not count towards the maximum number of Elite units you may have in your army.

Any Hardened Veterans not acting as heavy weapon crew may be armed with one of the special weapons from the following list: meltagun +10 pts; plasmagun +10 pts; grenade launcher +8 pts; flamer +6pts.

One Guardsman not acting as a heavy weapon crew or using a special weapon may be equipped with a vox-caster at +5 pts.

Transport: The squad may be mounted in a Chimera transport vehicle at +70 pts. See Codex Imperial Guard page 45.

SPECIAL RULES

Leadership: Any Imperial Guard unit within 12" of the Officer may use his leadership when taking Morale and Leadership tests as long as he isn't in close combat, falling back or pinned.

Infiltrators: If not equipped with a transport vehicle Veterans may be able to use their experience to take up an advanced position. They may therefore use the Infiltrators rule if it is permitted by the mission being used. If it is not permitted then they must set up with the rest of the army.
