| It is just over a week since the United States was brutally attacked and I still am in shock. I shouldn't be, I have watched countless shows in the last few years showing how lax our security is all over the country and in countless ways. The border to the north is wide open and we depend on Canada to deturmine who should and should not enter their country and therefor ours. To the south the border though closed in name in reality is so full of holes it might as well be wide open. Our shores are so large on both the Atlantic and Pacific that guarding them is nearly impossible and we make no real attempt to do so. Our airports have enough security that the casual person might, just might, get stopped when going where s/he isn't supossed to be but any real attempt would easily succeed. This was proven on Tuesday morning September 11th 2001 when Muslim fundamentalist highjacked four air planes and used them as projectile bombs at both World Trade Center buildings in New York and the Pentigan in Washington DC. The forth plane went down in a field in Pensilvania on it's way to an additional target in Washington DC. Their attacks on the World Trade Centers were successful in so much as the buildings were completely destroyed. The image of the the first Trade Center on fire and a plane ramming into the second along with the image of the buildings colapsing straight down like a house of cards with thousands of people still in them will be seared in our memory until we die. The last generation remembered where they were when they heard that President Kennedy was shot. The previouse generation remembers where they were when Pearl Harber was bombed and we will remember where we were when we first saw the second plane raming the World Trade Center. On a lighter note Charles' 35th Birthday was on the 16th. I had hoped to make it a memerable one but failed miserable. The only thng we did to celebrate was go out to lunch. It just ended up being Charles, Alma, Bryan,Charles' roommate, and me. Neither Andy nor David make it. And in David's case nor did he have a good excuse. Charles was disappointed in the turn out and I was disappointed that I ended up unable to make the day more memerable. Ciao |
