CD                 Lesson # 14385
This coming weekend will be the opera La Traviata at UMKC. Getting together with all three boys to check out this version of the opera.  As a matter of fact this is the first opera David and I ever saw. We saw it back when we were at university together. I'll let you know how this production turns out.

This will be short unfortunately once again I am writing this weeks after the fact. First off Charles had to bow out of coming to this because he had already scheduled to play in a volleyball tournament in Cleveland. In the end Alma also bowed out also so it was just David, Andy and I. The opera didn't start out well and went down hill from there. As I said earlier David and I had seen La Traviata as our first operatic experience by the traveling company of the New York Metropolitan Opera Company back when we were at University. This production was no where near those standards but I went into this expecting it to be along the same caliber as previous performances I have seen at the conservatory.  This didn't even come close to that.

The first intermission was only a half hour into the production and by the second intermission I was over it, but willing to wait it out for the sake of the performers for whom I always have sympathy.  Regardless of the production standards be it a performance by a national company or by a local amateur group I always feel that their hard work at least deserves a full hearing. I also was willing to stay in the believe that the other guys opinion may have differed from mine. Well when it came time for the second intermission we were debating whether to sit tight or get up for some air it became clear that none of us were enjoying our selves and we decided to cut our losses and leave. Andy decided that he wanted to go ahead and head out to the bars while David and I decided to get some dinner.  So this ended up not being a very good night. dinner was nice but I can't even remember where we went at this point. So I am afraid that after having gone to two bad operas in a row Andy, Charles and Alma may all have lost interest in seeing any more.  If the next performance at UMKC doesn't look promising I may have to work on getting them to go to a production at the Lyric, the local professional opera company.

The one good think I can say is that neither David or I have been disappointed in this past season at the symphony and will be renewing our subscription. Now I have to start trying to implement my goal of seeing at least one game/match in each of the cities major teams. I most likely will not have any problem getting any and all of the guys to join me in seeing the Chiefs (American football),  the Royals (baseball) or the KC Knights (basketball). I will have a hard time getting any of them to join me in going to our soccer teams either the indoor Attack, which  plays a faster paced game or the  Wiz the outdoor national champions.  None of my friends have ever even hinted at the possibility that they care a wit about football (soccer). But my plan is to get to at least one game/ match for each at least once this year.  Lets see how that unfolds. Well that's all for now. Until later.

ciao
