| I am writing this entry about a year after the fact. When I was going back over my entries to make sure all connections were correct I realized that this entry never got finished. All I had written at the time was: Friday party at Charles' Sunday shopping w/ Andy At the time I wrote these notes I had intended to come back and flesh them out but obviously never did. So now I will fill in what I can from memory. I still to this day remember the party at Charles' vividly but have absolutely no memory of that particular shopping trip with Andy. At that time he and I often went shopping together. Something that I truly miss doing now. So now on to more about Charles' party. At the time of the party Charles had just gotten a house in MIdtown with a friend, Jonny, his sister and her lover. They decided to throw a party to christen the new place. Charles had invited me early on to join them but as is so often the case I really wasn't in the mood to stand around a bunch of people I didn't know and watch them get drunk and stupid. So I had actively looked for a way to bow out. At the last minute, the night before the party Charles came and asked if I could lend him my recipe for Meatballs and if I could also join him early in the day to help prepare for the party. I reluctantly agreed to help him. When Charles and I arrived at the house after a morning of shopping we realized that the others really hadn't done much in the way of preparation and that besides starting the food we had some clean up to do. We proceeded to clean and to cook. It became quite apparent to me that the cooking would be left pretty much up to me. I proceeded to make the meatballs and other hors d'oeurves for that night with Charles coming in and out helping here and there but focusing on getting the house ready. After several hours of cooking the guests began to trickle in. I greeted them served them and accepted their complements on the food. After a while I began to realize that I was there much longer than I had intended and not only was I not enjoying this party but I was acting as a hostess/ servant. At that point I decided to finish what I was doing and head home. It had been a long busy day and I just wanted to go home, relax, read and call it a day. Charles did call the next day to ask where I had run off to and to thank me for my help. I must admit that I felt a little used but realized that it truly was my own fault. I had volunteered myself to do much of what I had done that night and though neither Charles nor his roommates had asked me to do as much as I had, at least he had been appreciative. Fortunately by the time I got up the next day I was feeling much better and more than ready to join Andy in another round of mindless shopping. ciao |
