This past week was fairly busy. I normally work my second job only a couple of days a week but this week my co-worker who works the nights I don't, went home to St. Louis to visit family, so I worked every night. It wasn't as exhausting as I thought it would be. This weekend started on a good note. I spent Saturday getting a lot acomplished. I ran a number of arrends and by the end of the day felt tired but like I had actually done something. So by the time I sat down Saturay evening to have a quiet evening I did not feel the least bit guilty just relaxing. I am currrently reading three, no make that four books. I normally don't like reading more than one at a time but I seem to have started all of these and read each as I get in the mood. The first is Ariana Huffingtons " How to Overthrow the Government" a book on american politics. The second is "The Worbergs" by --------------------- about one of the top banking familes before WWII their rise to power and the changes to their banking impire because of Hitler. They were/are a German Jewish banking family much like the _____________. The third book is a new "Mrs. Pollifax Unvaeled" novel by Dorathy Gilman. This is a light mystery and the one that I am reading most consistantly and most likely will be the one I finish first.. The forth and last book is Architecture and Politics in Germany, 1918 -1945 by Barbary Miller- Lane. |

This is the 150 anniversery of the founding of Kansas City and the City is going all out for the celebration. One thing that happened this past weekend is that to mark the actual anniversery date, which was Saturday, the city's churches and public buildings all rang their bells for 150 seconds at 12:00 noon. Even the radio stations all stopped playing music and played the ringing of the bells. I happened to be out walking when the radio started to play the ringing. I took off my head phones and could hear the bells loud and clear all over the city. It gave me goose bumps. It made me think of when the bells all rang at the end of WWII and how it must have made the people feel. I know that that is a lame comparision but I really think that I got an incling of what everyone must have felt after four long years of war. It's the oddest things that connect in your head isn't it. |
