"Troy"

Billboards #1: Burn by Usher from CD Confessions
Well I have finally gone to see it and it was worth the wait.

I have been waiting to see the movie
"Troy" since I saw the first commercial and trailer. It stars Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom (the tall handsome elf from "Lord of the Rings" and Sir Peter O'Toole. Along with an actor new to me who I thing stole the show, Eric Bana.

To start from the beginning as I have said I have a group of friends with whom I get together to do what we call "men's night out" the central characters are Me, my friend Bruce, his son Eric and our mutual friend from the university Bill. What we usually do is either get together at Bruce's house for movies every month or so or go to a new release movie. We usually pick movies that none of their wives are  particularly interested in seeing.  Well Bruce and I were talking on the phone a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that we needed to get together again. Now there are several blockbusters slated to come out in the coming months that I wanted to see but none more than "Troy" so when he mentioned that maybe instead of getting together at his house maybe we should go out to dinner at this little French place we all like and then to a movie I jumped at the chance to mention that "Troy" would be a good choice.  It looked like a good action flick and was based on
"The Iliad" and seeing that all of us are interested in Greek mythology we would enjoy this.  Even if it turned out not to be as good as it appeared we would have fodder for days tearing it apart but that I truly expected it to rival the great epic movies of the 1950's and 60's. He thought it was a good choice and would contact the others to see when they were available. Unfortunately Eric wouldn't be able to join us but Bill was as eager to see it as I was and as a bonus Cindy, Bruce's Wife was interested in seeing it as well.

So Bruce, Cindy, Bill and I got together for a fabulous dinner at Aixos and then went to see "Troy".  I won't  go into detail, in the hopes that you will see it but I will say I was impressed.  Though Brad Pitt's acting can be a little stiff at times and he was surely wanting when he shared a scene with the great Sir Peter O'Toole, he and all the others did a great job.  The scenery, the costumes and the cinematography were all top notch. Though the long war itself was truncated and the Gods who play such a major roll in the book were left out it will definitely become a classic,

If you haven't yet I urge you to take the time to see this while it is in the theaters.  It is one of those films best seen on the big screen. And while you are at it make an evening of it. Do as I did make it an evening of Food Friends and a great Film.

ciao
I'm reading: "In the Presence of Mine Enemies" by Harry Turtledove

What if the nazi's won the war. How would a Jewish family service until the 21 century.
I'm listening to: "Only You" CD by Harry Connick, Jr.

I can't get enough of the song "The Very Thought of You" If only I could find someone to feel that way about.  If you have you are one of the luckiest men/women on earth.
