This three day weekend was a nice and relaxing time. I always feel that I have just gotten back into the swing of things at work after the X-mas holiday break when MLK day comes. This time I took advantage of the three day holiday.
I went out for Dinner with David on Saturday, which isn't anything out of the ordinary. What was out of the ordinary was that he stayed with my over Saturday night so that we could get up, go out for breakfast, then go view the Herb Ritts art exhibit at the Kemper Museum of Modern Art here in town. I have been saying since I moved to Kansas City that I was going to visit the KMM but since I am not a huge fan of modern art have manage to put it off. The Nelson Art Gallery, the major museum here in town has a fairly good collection of modern art but I enjoy so much of the rest of the museum that I usually don't go to that section.
The show of Herb Ritts photography at the Kemper was fantastic. I even went into the other galleries and liked some of the other work on display. All and all we had a good time. Even though the day hadn't been that strenuous I went home and took a nap late that afternoon. David had some errands he wanted to run and was going to be singing at a benefit later that night. When I got up I talked with Charles and he and I went out for dinner. He wasn't feeling very well and we made a early night of it. I told him how good the show at the Kemper was, he is a fan of Herb Ritts work anyway and I hope he and Andy get a chance to see the exhibit.
Now after all the boring stuff about my gallivanting around the part that was different from all other weekends. I decided on Saturday that I was going to go to Jeff on Monday to see my parents. Usually when I go I go for a couple of days at least. I wanted to make this a very short trip. David and I set out a little after ten am and I waited to call my parents until I was half way there. Even if they had been out for the day it wouldn't have been a wasted day. It is only two hours away and it is the State capitol. I figured if we missed them David and I could spend time sight seeing.
Yes I know what you are saying; Other that the capitol what is there to see. I will admit that Jeff City is small and quite provincial but there are a couple of other things to do there, not much but a couple. Fortunately it didn't come to that. I was able to reach may parents on the way there. They hadn't eaten lunch yet so I invited them out. They were both pleased and surprised. We went to a local restaurant and had a nice leisurely dinner. Afterward we went back to their house. My sister and her family live next door. We spent a couple of hours over there visiting her and her grandkids, whom she is raising. While there, two of her grown sons stopped by. All and all we had a nice time. Though it wasn't as short as I had planned we still got back fairly early.
I didn't get much of my regular chores done but I had a good weekend and as my mother always said "Little elves weren't coming over night to clean up after me so it would all be there tomorrow. |
