Lesson # 13947 In the beginning HOME
next day's entry
Dear Journal,

This is the beginning of a new millennium and to mark this new beginning I plan to try to keep an online journal.

Where to start?  I am going to begin by backing up and talking about the millennium celebration,  I wasn't sure what I was going to do to celebrate the new year until the Thursday before.  I knew that I wanted to spend it with my friends Charles, Andy and David, but none of them seemed to know what they wanted to do. I was determined that I wasn't going to spend the most important New Years of our lives just hanging out at home.

By Thursday David had decided what he was going to do and invited me to join him.  He was going to go to go to a big hill here in town and watch the fireworks and the lights of the city go out, if they were infected with the Y2K bug.  I decided that this isn't what I had in mind as a way to celebrate the new year.  After talking to Charles and Andy about the options  We decided we would go out to dinner on the Country Club Plaza and then go out to my favorite dance club.  Though it is neither Charles' nor Andy's favorite club it is   located near my place and where we were going to have dinner.

To make a long story short our dinner sucked but the party at the club was great.. We ran into Andy and Kyle, some people we had met through David, and joined them for the evening. They were lots of fun; I was in the mood to just let loose, to dance, talk and have some fun.  Between the four of them dancing and parting with me I was able to have non ending fun. As the witching hour drew near I was pumped. Despite a sucky dinner I had had a great day.  ABC had been running an all day special of millennium celebrations around the world that I had watched off and on, the music at the club was hot and I was with four great guys all of which worked together to put me in a great mood..  We watched as New York and the East Coast celebrated and were ready to ring in the new year ourselves.  The count down was on.  As we were dancing and waiting for the 10 second signal we watched the celebration at Union Station, which had the large celebration in KC.  As we watched and waited we saw the fireworks go off in the Station and the sound suddenly came up on the big screen.  We could hear the yelling and screaming at the station,  We had missed the final ten seconds.  It was now 2000!  It was suddenly like a deflating balloon.  The place was quiet for a moment then we all broke out yelling and screaming.  The dance music started up again and we all went into a dancing frenzy.  As the night wore on and the champagne was consumed  the partying got wild. As the night came to a close we ran into a number of friends and wished them all well.  We finally called it a night around 1:30 CST.
