Gentle Shepherd
Sunday School
Questions & Answers
What is your average Sunday School attendance?  Though attendance varies depending on the time of  year ( holidays, vacations, etc.), Sunday School attendance averages around 110 each week.  At Gentle Shepherd, we are careful not to place too much importance on "numbers."  It's the people we care about.

How many do you have on your Sunday School roles?  We are currently in the process of updating our roles.  It would be safe to say that there are a minimum of 200 on our "responsibility list."

Why is Sunday School important?  Quick... take a look around you.  War, open lewdness, violence, and false teachings... sin surrounds all of us.  Children, teens, and yes, even adults need the refuge that only our Lord Jesus Christ can provide.  Sunday School is the place to learn more about Jesus and His teachings.  It gives us a fighting chance to maintain a holy lifestyle in today's sinful world.

What can Sunday School offer me? Maybe the best thing about Sunday School is that it gives us an opportunity to actively participate in a small group Bible study, which is what Sunday School is all about - learning more about God's word and His plan for our lives.  While worship services can be an enriching experience, it is Sunday School that gives individuals a voice and a chance to participate in open discussion.  It's also a great time to ask questions and get responses from others who may have wondered or experienced the same thing.

Who can attend Sunday School? Our Sunday School is open to anyone who has the desire to learn more about the truths found in God's word.

Where do you get your curriculum and what does it consist of?  Most of our dedicated staff use materials designed and developed by the Nazarene Publishing House at our church's International Headquarters in Kansas City, MO. Our teachers have the freedom to vary from the curriculum and several have opted to utilize outside resources.  We support the use of outside materials and ask that they are based on a strong holiness teaching.  Our children's department curriculum consists of a Bible-based story line, snack, and a take-home project that is completed during class.  Adults are given booklets to keep and study from during the week.
