How to tell what level project to make in the workshop.
Find yourself on this list.
Beginner: You are a Beginner and should select Beginner
rated workshops if you:
Have never sewn before.
Have never sewn ripstop before. (There is a difference sewing
ripstop.)
Only sew once a year at workshops.
Require assistance to properly thread the machine.
Require assistance to replace a needle in the machine.
Require assistance to balance thread tension in sewing machine.
Require assistance to wind a bobbin or replace a bobbin or tension a bobbin
case.
Require assistance to decide what stitch to use where.
Require assistance to change stitches.
Don't know if the sewing machine has reverse, or how to make it reverse if
it does.
Sewing a straight line is a challenge.
Intermediate: You should consider yourself an Intermediate level
kitemaker if you:
Have completed at least two previous workshop projects, or
Have completed at least two or projects on on your own, or
Complete one or more projects a year on your own.
Know your machine well enough to do all the following without help:
Set it up, plug in the foot pedal, and turn it on.
Thread it.
Replace a needle.
Balance the thread tension.
Wind and replace a bobbin.
Select and change stitches.
Sew a straight line with the proper allowance.
Know when to stop needle up or needle down.
Skilled: Consider yourself skilled if you:
Are comfortable working mostly unassisted.
Frequently make kites on your own.
Can work un-assisted from plans.
Have or know how to use all the tools and notions associated with kitemaking.
Advanced: Consider yourself an Advanced Kitemaker if you:
Frequently make kites on your own.
Have made one or more kites without the aid of plans.
Have designed one or more kites from scratch.
Are comfortable working mostly unassisted, only needing the Presenter for
instructions either specific to the Project, or answers to questions like:
"This or that, here or there, now or later".
