We are nearing the AAFTA Nationals in Pulaski, TN and it appears the club will be fielding a strong team this year. Larry Durhams Temecula Challenge was a blast even if he was trying to relive the long trek events of the past. The winds always make Temecula another level above any mechanical rating system. This year we were graced with the presence of Tommy and Laurie Garland from Georgia. Tommy ended up using borrowed equipment and made a strong showing shooting without a cheek piece on day one. Saturday evening while most competitors relaxed with a cool beverage Tommy was hard a work on a two by four and a piece of rod. By nightfall a professional looking cheek piece graced his P 70. All that work showed in the final standings where he made a strong finish. Larry always seems to draw surprise visitors; it took me fifteen minutes before I even recognized Tommy. I knew his voice but could not fathom how hed appeared in Temecula. We also had Mark Kauffman one of the original Phoenix Airgun shooters make an appearance. He seemed to have a fun if exhausting trip, having to return to work on Monday. Kevin Yee from NOCASA converted to springer and put quite a few pneumatics floggers to shame. What was especially nice was the presence of the better halves (much better) at the event. The general level of scruffiness was way down thanks to them. If McMurray is sporting a three-piece suit soon I wont be surprised at all. Thanks to LD for a great time and the check for the scorecard corrections is in the mail.
