MR. PATRICK JOSEPH BEGLEY..
Death on Wednesday morning broke another link with the pioneer days when it
closed the eyes of Mr. Patrick Joseph Begley. Deceased, who had attained the
grand old age of 90 years, passed away in the Cowra district hospital. He had
been in ill-health for the last 6 months or so.
Eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs James Begley, his mother's maiden name being
Ellen Cullen. deceased; was born at Trunkey on Fevruary 27 1846, and like his
dad, he earned his living from the land. In August 1868 when he was 22 he
married Norah Flynn the ceremony bing prerformed at Carcoar, and in the years
that followed he and his eife and family established on the land in various
parts of the Cowra district, built up an enviable reputation and a wide circle
of friends.
In 1875 deceased settled in the Walli district and until the death of his only
daughter Honorah in 1927 he lived on the property known as "Glanmore". He lost
his wife 38 years ago. During the past 6 years he resided with his son Arthur
at "Loyola" Binni Creek Crowr.
There are 3 other sons Patrick Phillip (Greenethorpe), John Thomas (Cowra), and
Daniel Joseph (Woodstock). 2 sons Edward and Michael predeceased their father.
Mrs. Graham (Newtown), is a sister and Messrs Phillip Begley (Cowra) John
(Bathurst) and Daniel (Rockley) are brothers of deceased. One brother James
(Burraga) and 3 sisters Mesdames Purcell, Quinn and Flynn, predeceased him.
Rev. Dr. Begley (Mossgeil New Zealand) and Mother M. Agatha (St. Vrigid's
Convent Randwick) are grandchildren; Mrs. John O'Brien is a niece and Mr.
J.P.Purcell a nephew. There are 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
During his last illness, deceased was attended by Rev. Father Masterson and he
died fortified by all the rights of the Catholic Church.
Rev. Father Reen celebrated Requiem Mass at St. Brigid's church Woodstock, at
eight o'clock yesterday morning and afterwards officiated at the graveside
where he was assisted by Father Masterson. The pallbearers were the 4 sons, Mr.
Phillip Begley (brother) and Mr. G.J.Begley (grandson). All the district was
represented at the funeral, for which the arrangements were in the hands of
J.P.Simeon and Sons (Cowra)
Wreaths came from Mr. J.S.Poignand; Mr. J.P.Simeon and family; Mr. and Mrs.
P.H.McFawn; Mr. and Mrs. H. Hudson; Una and Oscar; Mr. and Mrs. E. Higgs and
family.
