William Colclough born July 2, 1716 St Paul's Parish, Stafford County Virginia, christened on September 22, 1716, he was the son of Benjermin & Rachel (unk) Colclough. William married Mary Rogers, daughter of John Rogers. William died before October 1783 in Warren County North Carolina. Mary remarried a man named

MISC NOTES FOR WILLIAM COLCLOUGH & MARY ROGERS

On October 23, 1752 in Prince William County Virginia, William was named in indentures of lease and release from Benjermin Newton to William Colclough. He bought land from Benjermin Newton III (his cousin)on July 23, 1753.

On May 29, 1760, in Fauquier County Virginia, William and his wife Mary gave consent for their daughter Margret Colclough to marry Henry Foote.

William and his wife Mary sold land in Fauquier County Virginia in 1762. He bought land November 7, 1763 in Granville County North Carolina.

He was taxed for land in 1766 in Butte (Now Warren) County North Carolina

May 16, 1771- William was processioner with Thomas Harton and returned to the court the preceedings as processioner in Bute (now Warren) County North Carolina

William was named as an assignee of Alexander Colclough in 1775 in Brunswick County Virginia.

William signed a Will on June 12, 1783 in Warren County North Carolina

Knowing the uncertainity of the hour of death; Lend to my wife Mary Colclough, during her life, my plantation on which I now live on and half my land joining the plantation. ALso 8 negroes, stock, furniture, etc; At the death of my wife; the above property to be divided equally among my childern; John Colclough, Alexander Colclough, Ricey Colclough,Margret Shearin, Jane Mosley, Ann Mitchell, Elizabetj Shearin, Mary Colclough, Francie Colclough, Beheathland Colclough, except the land and one horse.
LEND- unto my daughter Jane Mosely- 2 negro Pat & Milly, during her life and then to the heirs of her body
LEND- to daughter Francie Colclough- 2 negro Rachel & James during her life, if she dies without having heirs of her body then to be divided betwix the rest of my childern.
LEND- to my daughter Beheathland Colclough. 2 negro Bob and Such.
LEND- to my son Ricey Colclough-the plantation whereon I now live and half the land adjacent after wifes death and 2 negro, Moses and Seley and my black horse.

CHILDERN OF WILLIAM COLCLOUGH & MARY ROGERS

JOHN ASHBY COLCLOUGH- born September 14, 1743 in Stafford County Virginia. He was taxed in 1766 in Bute (Now Warren) County North Carolina. He served in the Military August 12, 1777 in Bute (Warren) County North Carolina, he was a Captain. He appeared in the 1790 North Carolina Census in Warren County. He died 1802-1803 in Warren County North Carolina. He signed a will on January 3, 1802 in Warren County North Carolina (WILL BOOK 12 pg 61) His estate was probated in May of 1803 in Warren County North Carolina.

MARGRET COLCLOUGH- born February 1744/1745 in Stafford County Virginia.She married Henry Foote. She was named in a court record she mortgaged her inheritance from her father William Colclough & Rachel Colclough on April 13, 1786 in Warren County North Carolina

Margret Shearin to William Shearing- mortgage on her inheritance from her father and her grandmother Rachel Colclough and brother Benjermin Colclough to secure a debt of 17 pounds Virginia money due. December 25, 1787. WIT: James Paine (Jurat) and Nancy Shearin. She and her son William sold land may 7, 1786 in Warren County North Carolina

William Foote and Margret Shearin to Richard Ellis- 120 for 190 acres lying on both sides of Howell's Branch bounded by Washams Corner, John Fann's Corner, and Hicks Ellis. WITNESS: Hardridge Walker, Issac Marshall.
Margret gives Power of Attorney to William Foote to collect debts on August 1787 in Warren County North Carolina. She decided her right of dower in lands to Phillip Burford on 200 acres sold to John Vanlandingham from Phillip Burford-last husband November 5, 1796 in Warren County North Carolina
