MISC NOTES FOR BENJERMIN COLCLOUGH & RACHEL

Benjermin Colclough patented land 150 acres on Dodson Creek, Stafford County Virginia on October 20, 1694. His estate was in probate on April 11, 1722 in Stafford County Virginia.

Rachel Colclough signed a Will on December 19, 1748 in Stafford County Virginia. WILL BOOK- 1729-1748 pg 277
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN!!! I, Rachel Colclough of Stafford County and St. Paul's Parish being sick in body but of perfect sense and memory thanks be given to GOD, do and ordain this my last will and testament. In manner and form following items, I commit my soul into the hands of the Almighty God assuredly believing I shall free pardon and remission from all my sins. In through the merits of my only savior and redeem Jesus Christ. Next I commit my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my execs, hereafter nominated and as for such worldly estates which hath pleased God to bestow upon me. I give and dispose of the following manner and form; Item I give my land in Fairfax County to be equally divided between my sons Robert Colclough & William Colclough and their heirs. Robert to have his part joining to his land where he now lives and William Colclough the remainder. Item I give unto William Colclough one negro wench named Nell and one negro boy named Phillip, and a negro named Kate, one feather bed and furniture I lay on. Item I give unto my daughter Eliza Bowling,the use of one negro named Will unto death of Eliza Bowling, I give said negro Will to her son John Bowlin. Item I give unto my daughter, Mary Thornberry, the use of one negro boy named Jack and a negro girl named Nell until her death and after the death of Mary Thornberry I give the said negroes, Jack and Nell to her childern. Item I giv unto Eliza Bowlin, the use of one negro wench named Sall for 5 yrs and if the said negro should have any childern in the time, go to Alexr Bowlin and his brother Sim Bowlin. Item I give unto my daughter Mary Thornberry's daughter Sarah Kidwell, one feather bed bolster sheet and blanket and rugg that was her grandfather's and one young cow, 2 pewter dishes and half dozen pewter plates. Item I give unto my daughter Rachel Bowling, the feather bed and furniture that belongs to it whereon her childern lays on, and 6 head of cattle, and all my hogs and 6 barrells of Indian corn. Item I give unto my daughter Mary Thornberry's son William Kidwell, one young cow and the money Captain Anthony Thornton owes me,being 7 pounds, 10 shillings. Item I give unto my daughter Jane Newton, the use of one negro man named James and one negro girl named Rose, until the death of Jane Newton and after her death I give the said negro fellow James and negro girl named Rose to her childern. Item I give unto my daughter Margret Durham, the use of one negro boy named James, for 5 yrs and after 5 yrs the said boy go to Elizabeth Bowling and the said Eliza Bowling to have use of the said boy 5 yrs and then I give him to Alexander Colclough, the son of Robert Colclough. Item I give unto my daughter Mary Thornberry, the remainder of my cattle after Rachel Bowling, Junr and Priscilla Bowling has a heiffer a piece. Item I give unto William Colclough the land where I now dwell on to him and his heirs forever. Item I give unto my daughter Margret Durham the use of one negro named Sall after 5 yrs which she is to be with Eliza Bowling then to Margret Durham until the death of Margret Durham,then I give the said negro wench to her childern. Item my will and desire is that 5 of my best pewter dishes and one dozen of pewter plates be equally divided between my daughters, Mary Thornberry, Rachel Bowling, and Jane Newton. Item I give one gray mare called "Fanny" to Will Colclough and the first fole she brings to Jane Newton. Item I give unto Rachel Bowling one bay horse called "Spark". Item my will and desire is that my son William Colclough return the bed which I lent him formerly to my negro wench Nell at my death and the said negro wench to have the 2 iron pots and hooks, which she has in her quarter with her, such bedding and bed clothes to go with her. Item I bequeath unto Robert Colclough and William Colclough's childern, all my money in the house and in Major John Champe hand to be equally be divided between the said childern. Item my last Will and desire is that after my just debts are paid my crop to be equally divided between my daughters, Mary Thornberry, Rachel Bowling, Eliza Bowling, Jane Newton and Margret Durham. Item I give unto my granddaughter Jane DeBell one negro boy named Anthony to her and her heirs. Item I will and desire is the the said negro boy be in the care of my daughter Rachel Bowling while the said Jane DeBell come of age or married and if she died without heir to return him to William Colclough. Item I give unto Jane Newton, all the new feathers in the house and a new tick and bolster and a new pair of sheets and a new quilt which is now in the house and the remainder of the furniture to be paid for out of the crop. Item I give unto Rachel Bowling, all the rest of my estate on the plantation. Item I do appoint my sons, Robert Colclough, William Colclough and Saml Thornberry exrs of this my last will and testament. In witness; where I have here unto set my hand and seal this 19th day of December in the year our Lord God, 1748

A court held for Stafford County Febry 14th 1748. The last Will and Testament of Rachel Colclough dec'd was presented into court, by the exer's there in named who made oath there to according to alw and being further proved by the oaths of the witness there unto is admitted to record and an motion of the said exrs and they performing what is usual in such cases. Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate there of due form; Test- H Tyler Clerk of Court??
