Week 10: Gender awareness and gender representativeness: the retraining of the transport profession?

This lecture investigates the gender representativeness and gender awareness of the transport profession and explores the potential for and probability of the retraining of this profession.

The key reading is:

This reading draws our attention to the fact that women are not a minority but that both their demographic presence and their particular needs have been under-represented both in and by the transport profession to date.

The implication of this reading and of the key course readings set out through the last ten weeks is that there is need for major cultural and organisational change in respect of gender and transport.

There are signs of change but these are as yet far from systematic and comprehensive.
