Refractors
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
The first telescopes ever to be invented were Refractors. Refractors use high grade lenses to magnify images, unlike REFLECTORS, that use mirrors. This makes them more expensive than Reflectors. Refractors generally also have smaller apatures. An average sized refractor will be around 3-5", whereas a reflector will be around 6-8". Refractors are the most powerful telescopes inch for inch. Because of this, refractors are fairly expensive. Small refractors are ideal for beginners, one can be purchased for around £100. Larger refractors are extremely powerful, and a 4" will cost around £500. As a result, refractors are not incredibly popular, because they are suited to either beginners or professionals. Small refractors are very good for planitary observation. They are also more portable than reflectors.
