Electricity is one of the most important factors in modern life. Where would we be without electicity? No computers, cooked food, hot water, telephones, radios, the list is endless. That is why we must start looking for other sources of powering appliances, because we rely on electricity too much. Electricity is generated at large power plants by turning turbines that turn generators, that turn magnets. ALL electricity is made in this way: a magnet must be spun freely inside a copper coil. All of the means of gathering energy we have; Solar, Waterr, Nuclear, Coal, Oil and Gas are all used in some way to turn magnets inside copper coils of wire. Electricity is dispersed over the NATIONAL GRID, an organisation which makes sure that everyone gets a supply of electricity. At current, the most popular electricity-creating fuels are coal and oil, but these will soon run out, and then we will have to make do with other sources of energy. |
