| WHO IS THE BOY? | the real scott hellings | NOTES ON THE CHARACTER |

about THE REAL SCOTT HELLINGS

Yeah,Allow me to introduce myself: I am the REAL Scott Hellings and this is my website. I am from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada which is a town of about 32,000 people. I currently live in Edmonton, Alberta where I went to school and studied journalism.

Dubbing myself "The Boy" was an obvious choice, as that is what my family calls me. Well, perhaps it was less obvious and more a reflection on my inability to come up with anything more creative or original. But yes, they actually refer to me not as Scott, but as "The Boy." I have two older sisters and no brothers, so for whatever reason my dad just started referring to me as The Boy and it just stuck. To this day it feels weird hearing people call me Scott. In fact, there are some people I know who only refer to me as Boy. So, when I first applied to RWW, I chose that monnicker for myself and I've since been able to find a way to make it work. As I've said before, I think I deserve a pat on the back for being able to come up with a name for my "fans" - The Boy Scouts. If that isn't making something out of nothing, then I don't know what is.

RWW was my first e-fed. I had never even heard of e-wrestling until February of 2001. I was reading an article on it at the now-defunct IGN Wrestling and was instantly intrigued. I wanted to give it a try right away, but alas, I could not find any feds worth joining. My good buddy Josh (Jay Zee) had stumbled across Rampage World Wrestling and told me to apply immediately.

So I was in RWW for most of 2001 and other stints in 2002 and 2003. I then tried a couple of brief stops in a some other feds, but was unhappy no matter where I went. I found that it was difficult jumping into a new fed where no one knows you and you don't know them, particularly if the fed is established and has been around for a while. No one paid any attention to me in a fed like TWC and I was tired of being booked in meaningless matches with no angles or direction leading me. I then tried to help reopen RWW, but that too failed. I'm happy with where I am now though.

My other interests include hockey, video games (PS2) and James Bond. The Edmonton Oilers are my favourite team (one of the reasons I chose to go to Edmonton for school!), although I support any Canadian-based team. Yes, I even cheer for the much maligned Calgary Flames. I despise large market teams like Detroit and New York (my most hated sports team in general is the Yankees because they just go out and buy their players) and I also hate any defense-minded organizations like the New Jersey Devils. My favourite player of all time is Oilers goalie legend Bill Ranford. My current favourite players are Ryan Smyth of Edmonton, Mike Cammalleri of Calgary and Simon Gagne of the Philadelphia Flyers, though I like a lot of players.

In fact, my favourite thing about hockey in general is the annual World Junior Championships that takes place every December. As such, I am a big supporter of any player who has worn the Maple Leaf in that tournament. I'm a huge mark for young, quick, and skilled players, because I enjoy watching players develop. I also like the younger guys in the league because most of them still play hockey because they genuinely love the sport, not just because they want to earn a few million dollars. All of this also probably explains my love for the Oilers.

Other than hockey, I probably enjoy football next, but only the Canadian game. I really don't like the NFL. In the CFL I sorta begrudgingly cheer for The Saskatchewan Roughriders (even though I am apparently the only person from Saskatchewan who recognizes they perrenially suck) and the Edmonton Eskimos, although I am partial to any of the western-based teams. I don't care for baseball much and I hate basketball. I just don't think either are fun to watch really, but I do enjoy playing them.

As far as video games are concerned, I own a XBOX 360. I enjoy sports games (especially the EA NHL series, which has occupied countless hours of my life since the early 90s/Genesis era and the NCAA fottball games) and action/adventure games or platformers. I love the Metal Gear, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper series of games. And, of course, I love the Smackdown series of games as well. I really don't care much for RPGs or first-person shooters or strategy games because I simply find them boring. An action RPG, if done well, can be great though, just look at the X-Men Legends or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance games.

And yes I am a huge James Bond nut. I could talk to you about James Bond for hours. For the record, I think Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond (blasphemy I know) because I always felt he had the right look and the perfect mix. Moore was too silly, Connery was just too brash, Lazenby was too sensitive, and Dalton was too serious. Brosnan can be serious and hard-edged, but his Bond has a human side too. He can treat the job with a sense of professionalism, but he also knows how to have fun. My favourite Bond film is either GoldenEye, The Living Daylights, or Thunderball. I can never decide. The worst is Licence to Kill though. That was awful for so many reasons. For what it's worth, I may be one of the few people out there who didn't totally love Daniel Craig or Casino Royale. I thought it was a great action movie, just not a solid Bond flick. In fact, I think that it hardly felt like a Bond film at all. I also took issue with changing the card game from baccarat, Bond's traditional game, to poker merely because it is popular in contemporary society. That killed me, it really did. Still, I didn't hate the film by any means and I am excited to see the next Bond film (as always).

Speaking of films, I watch a lot. My friends and I are in love with bad movies, of which I would say Hard to Die is still probably the best one I have ever seen. A good rule of thumb is if you see a cheezy-looking film in a video store that has a review from Joe Bob Briggs on the cover, rent it. You will not be disappointed. That man knows his stuff. Other than that, I basically like films that are mean to entertain. I love the Indiana Jones series. The worst film I have ever seen? Hm...probably The Bogus Witch Project, although that was not a true feature-length film per se. So in that case, I'd say 3000 Miles to Graceland might be the worst. Awful, truly awful.

I'm also addicted to television shows on DVD. Naturally, I love The Simpsons, but I'm also a huge nut for Columbo too. Yes, you read that right. Columbo is easily one of my favourite shows of all-time as is NewsRadio. I also love Numb3rs and Supernatural. As you can probably tell from my picbase, I am also horribly addicted to the show Lost. I also enjoy watching Mythbusters, The Office, Bones, Two and Half Men, and the list goes on and on...

Other interests I have? Well, I've always been fascinated by the paranormal (ghosts, ESP, ufology, and the like), as well as cryptozoology (the study of undiscovered animals like the Loch Ness Monster). Dinosaurs have also always intrigued me. I could talk for hours about dinosaurs too. I love dinosaurs that are a little bit different: Iguanadon, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus and whatnot. The ultimate is still Tyrannosaurus Rex though.

Oh, and I love Spider-Man. Always have, always will. I have never been much a comic book geek though, but I LOVE the Spidey cartoons. I really want them to release the 90s Spider-Man cartoon on DVD in season sets. Like I said, I'm addicted to TV on DVD and I would SO buy that. I also quite enjoy the X-Men. I love Wolverine (who doesn't though?) because, not only does he kick ass, but he's also Canadian. Damn straight! But my favourite team member is Gambit though. Gambit kicks all sorts of ass and he is up there with Spidey. The only DC character I enjoy is Batman. Damn, I really am a dork, aren't I?

As far as wrestling is concerned, I prefer the techinical style. Currently, my favourite wrestlers are Kurt Angle, Christian Cage (even though I never get to see them in TNA and miss him them both in WWE), Edge, Charlie Haas, and The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Matt and Jeff Hardy. I'm also a huge mark for my fellow Canadians, like Val Venis. I dearly miss Eddie and, no matter what may have happened, I will ALWAYS love Chris Benoit's ring work. He is, quite possibly, my favourite wrestler of all time. . And why won't The Rock come back and make Raw worth watching again? Damn you Rock! My most hated of all time? Goldberg, Scott Steiner, Mark Henry, Rikishi, Heidenreich, and The Great Khali. Basically anyone who can't actually, you know, wrestle. Currently, I probably hate Kane, Great Khali and Umaga the most. It should also be pointed out that I like wrestling and NOT storylines. I wish WWE had more pure wrestling and rewarded those who were great in the ring and not just those who "have the look." If not Benoit, my all-time favourite wrestler would have to be Bret Hart.

Musically, I enjoy rock. I enjoy bands like Collective Soul, Sloan (my two favourites), Idlewild, Green Day, 5440, Shinedown, Three Days Grace, Tupelo Honey and well...anyone who doesn't suck. I'm looking at you Fallout Boy and Coldplay! Talk about being overrated. So, in other words, rock is good, but pop-punk and anything remotely associated with the word "emo" needs to go to hell and die.

Anyway, I think that's it for now. I'm really not that interesting a person, so I think that's all I got. Check out my list of links for various sites I enjoy that relate to some of the topics mentioned on this page.

Regards,

---Scott Hellings---
