target audience

Generally speaking, artists are fairly computer savvy, and are up to date with current technology.  However, we have to be aware of those still using dial up 56k connections, so the file sizes (image sizes) will be available in smaller sizes, with the option of enlarging them to full (web) size for those with the appropriate downloading time for it not to become a hindrance to be waiting to download large images.  The site must be compliant with both PC and Macintosh computers, due to the preference of Macintosh machines in the art world.  The religious/demographic of the site will vary greatly, but due to content, it will not likely need to be taken into consideration during the design.

the design structure...

...of the site will be geared towards visually, yet simplistically stimulating graphic design, but well organized with navigation bars on the top/and or bottom of each page.  There will be a link to each sub page in the same order on each page, making it simple to return to a previous page without having the use the forward and back browser buttons.  The galleries will have back and forward navigation buttons to go between images.  I want the visitors to clearly understand how to navigate the site.  There is no particular order of the individual sub pages, although depending on the final design, there may be an order to certain photo galleries.  Although the color, fonts, and formatting are not entirely decided, I have a concept which will be the main theme for the site.  The site will be primarily black, white, and gray - with a few bold colors thrown in here and there for visual stimulation.  The site will primarily be created on a Macintosh 900MHz iBook G3 running Apple OSX v10.2.8, using a broadband Internet connection.  The site will be best suited to be viewed on computers with similar capabilities."

authoring this web site

I chose to create this site using the WYSIWYG editor NVU.  NVU is a well designed program which keeps ease of use and in mind but does not skimp on functionality so you can create exactly what you imagined.   NVU is available as a free download for Linux, Mac, and PC offered at www.nvu.com.

purpose

The purpose of my website is to provide an online portfolio for my photography in an artistic, yet simplistic and practical format.  It is being created to fulfill obligations for the final project for the IST140 class at Mercer County Community College Fall 2006 semester.  I want to showcase my work organized into subtopics dedicated to various projects which are displayed in the portfolio.  Because the work displayed is a personal representation of myself as a person and as an artist, the design will be one of personal taste which I best feel presents my work the way I want it to be shown.
