THE STORY OF THE BOOK

The ideas for this one just sort of exploded into my head one day: the boys, the beach, seaweed, money, and more trouble!  So I began writing and it was easy.  But although Scholastic liked it, there were problems.  In fact the problem was Stacey.
   Who?
   Stacey  ran
Bike Off!, Haulaway Bay's bike hire service, for her dad (Barry Boyd).  It was all very complex; she thinking the boys were marketing something entirely different (drugs), and so on, and Randy was taking an unhealthy interest in her, at Tammy's expense.
Anyway, Stacey was eventually edited out of the story.  Left on the cutting room floor, so to speak.   These things happen in the life of a book.  I still have that original version, where Stacey 'lives'.  Wonder what will eventually happen to it?

WHAT THE REVIEWER SAID:
(I love this review!)

"Most of the humour is set exactly at the level of young boys, so be prepared for some awful jokes. Don't bother looking for a Latin dictionary to translate the scientific name for Randy's Kapai Weed.*
There aren't enough funny books for kiwi kids, so Crab Apples is very welcome. And yes, it has a yucky ending. And revolting. And funny. Somebody should film it."
