- Pers�nlich: Single. I enjoy sailing, riding horses, coin collecting and archaeology. I left school in 1933, to apprentice as a Printer, after The Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service, was inacted when Adolf Hilter came to power.
In 1939, I joined the German Army and later in 1942, transfered to the Infanterie-Division Gro�deutschland. In 1943 while serving in the Panzergrenadier-Division Gro�deutschland, I saw action at the battle of Kharkov. I was taken prisoner in April, 1944 by the Russians at T�rgul Frumos in Moldavia.
After I was released by the Russians in 1948, I returned to G�ttingen and completed my studies at G�ttingen University in 1953, with a degree in Philosophy. In 1981, I retired as a professor at the University of Cologne.
