Y2K- The Full Discography
This is episode 7 in a trilogy of trilogies- just call me George Lucas.  Episode 9 is the "Eat This Usama" CD which has songs that came out in 2002-2004 that make reference to 9-11, or are otherwise patriotic.  On this CD I am trying to create the mood of anticipation of big changes to come- "something's gonna happen soon, Mistah!" Only one song was actually released after 2002, and that is "Speed of Sound" by Coldplay.  I originally intended to include the song "Clocks" from Coldplay's first album which came out just before 9-11, but I couldn't find the CD, so I used "Speed of Sound" instead as a placeholder.  When I finally found "A Rush of Blood To the Head" in my daughter's room, I listened to both songs again, and decided I liked "Speed of Sound" better, since the lyrics mention stars moving at the speed of light and all that trippy stuff. The first Coldplay album was great too, and the guy who used to sit two desks over from me where I worked on 9-11 used to play it on his headphones. Every song on this CD are songs I would listen to while driving home from work on I-95 in 2001-2002.

Santana - my whole family LOVES the "Shaman" album.  I picked three songs that are lesser known, not the big smash hits like "Game of Love" although we love Michele Branch. The song "Since Supernatural" is by far the best song on the album, although the guitar licks on "America" with P.O.D. are pretty amazing.  "Since Supernatural" tells the story of the entire decade of the 90s for African Americans, as told by a brother trying to call his girlfriend on the phone from prison. I don't know how he got "saw OJ speeding" to come out in 4 syllables.  Why can't we all just get along?

The other guy who used to sit one desk over used to listen to Creed, and the hit song on the radio at the time was "My Sacrifice" so I started getting interested.  I bought the greatest hits album and listened to the whole thing - that was when I heard the song "Are You Ready?" and I thought it was perfect to open the CD.  Back on my
Y2K pages, I always asked "Are you ready?"  Even though Creed sounds like headbanger music when you first hear it, the lyrics of "Higher" are actually quite optimistic, like when he says "I don't know if I have the strength to make the world and my dreams the same.  The difference is to let love replace all our hate."

Train- the song "Drops of Jupiter" goes with the CD jewel case cover, and although the lyrics are mostly nonsense, I like it because the song mentions all the objects in the solar system and is a real "sing along" song while driving. "Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded, learn heaven is overrated?"

Sheryl Crow performed "Safe and Sound" on the 9-11 Tribute To Heroes DVD, and it was my favorite from the "C'Mon C'Mon" CD along with "Steve McQueen" which in my mind sums up the Clinton Administration quite well- "we've got rock stars in the White house and our pop stars look like porn; all our heroes hit the highway 'cause they don't hang out here anymore."  Another recurrent theme you will find in this CD and the "Usama" CD is "heroes."  Sarah McLachlan will be included on the next CD in the set, as will Joan Osborne, so their importance in the overall collection will become apparent at that time.
