GORMANIA, W.Va.  Elmer F. Likens, 98, of Rt. 1 Gormania, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.

Born on Aug. 11, 1901, in Burlington, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Rebecca (Rinker) Likens. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Rebecca Kathern (Leatherman) Likens on May 6, 1981; four brothers, Frank, Ezra, Edward and Arthur Likens; and two sisters, Clellia Elkins and Amanda Ferrebee.

Mr. Likens was a retired timberman and was formerly employed with the Harco Lumber Company, Oakland, Md. He was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren, Oakland.

Surviving are two daughters, Opal A. Rotruck and husband Raymond, New Creek, and Kathern L. Knotts and husband Dan, Oakland; five grandchildren, Daniel, Douglas and Dennis Knotts and Alan and Carolyn Rotruck; and two great-grandchildren, Janell and Michelle Knotts.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek, Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ed Weaver and Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Thrush Cemetery, Antioch.

Harry T. Likin Sr., 93, of Carroll Avenue, Keyser, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born on May 1, 1907, at Martin, W.Va., he was a son of the late Wright and Ida (Thrush) Likin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mabel C. (Bennett) Likin on Feb. 6, 1988; two brothers, Welby and Carl Likin; two sisters, Nellie McNeill and Beulah Likin; and by a son-in-law, Harold Wright Sr. Mr. Likin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Likin was the retired owner and operator of Bobo's Radiator and Welding Shop for 30 years. He was a member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are one son, Harry T. Likin Jr. and wife Vesta, Keyser; one daughter, Margaret L. Wright, Keyser; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Statler officiating.

Interment will be in the Thrush Cemetery, Antioch.

Gordon S. Leatherman, 60 of 504 Victoria Street,Cumberland, Maryland, sales manager and secretary-treasurer of the Community Baking Company died yesterday at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, where he was admitted earlier in the day.

Mr. Leatherman was on a business trip to Elkins when he was stricken. He had been associated with the Community Baking Company for 35 years.

Born in Grant County, WV, he was a son of the late Sherman and Lola (Rotruck) Leatherman. His wife Edith (Appel) Leatherman survives.


Mr. Leatherman was a member of St. Luke�s Lutheran Church.

The Body is at the Kight Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m.

Lulie Elliott Leatherman, 80 of Antioch WV died at her home June 16, 1963. She had been in failing health for several years.

Born September 06, 1882, in Grant County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rebecca (Harris) Rotruck. Her husband, James W. Leatherman, preceded her in death in 1935.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Michael, two sons, Herbert and Odell Leatherman and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Harris, all of Antioch; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The body is at the Schaeffer Funeral Home where friends will be received after 10 a.m. today.

A service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church, Antioch by Rev. Melvin Roesch. The body will be taken to the church at noon tomorrow. Interment will be in Knobley Cemetery.

Odellas Wright Leatherman, 73 of Martin, WV Grant County died Friday June 02, 1995 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born May 26, 1922 in Williamsport, WV, he was the son of the late James W. and Lulie (Rotruck) Leatherman.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Herbert A. Leatherman, a half-brother, Ray C. Leatherman, and one sister, Myrtle Leatherman Michael.

Mr. Leatherman was a timberman and a farmer.

He was a member of the Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church, Martin.

Mr. Leatherman was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by five nephews, Walter Michael of Moorefield, WV, Paul Leatherman and Norman Leatherman both of New Creek, WV, Gary Leatherman and Sheriff John Leatherman both of Petersburg, four nieces, Dorothy Michael Hughes of New Creek; Beatrice Michael House of Rawlings, Maryland; Rosalie Leatherman Junkins of New Creek; and Rosanna "Jenny" Leatherman Rexrode of Petersburg; 10 great�nieces; 12 great-nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Monday June 05, 1995 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with the Rev. Greg Rotruck officiating.

Interment will be in the Knobley Cemetery, Martin

The family requests that memorials be made to the Petersburg High School baseball team or the Knobley Cemetery.

Herbert Andrew Leatherman, 65 Antioch Route, New Creek was dead on arrival Saturday at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Born October 09, 1919 at Williamsport, WV Grant County, he was a son of the late James W. and Lulie (Rotruck) Leatherman.

Mr. Leatherman was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army and was a prisoner of war.

He was employed for 17 years at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

He was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren and Post 6454 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Petersburg.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Judy (Allessio) Leatherman; four sons, Paul A. Leatherman and Norman R. Leatherman, both of New Creek, WV, and Gary L. Leatherman and John R. Leatherman, both of Petersburg, two daughters, Mrs. Rosalie E. Junkins of New Creek and Mrs. Rosanna V. Rexrode of Petersburg; one brother, Odell W. Leatherman of New Creek; 10 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, where services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow by Revs W. G. Byers and Thomas L. Goldizen. Interment will be in the Knobley Cemetery at Antioch with military rites accorded by VFW Post 6454 members will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Grant Memorial Hospital, VFW Post 6454 or the Burlington Rescue Squad.

William B. �Bill� Leatherman, 75 of Route 1, Burlington died Friday, September 16, 1994 at his residence.

Born October 01, 1918 in Grant County, he was the son of the late Jodie M. and Nettie V. (Webb) Leatherman.

Leatherman was a retired farmer and a member of the Harness Run Church of the Brethren.

He was the last member of his immediate family.

vivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends were received from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Beaver Run Church of the Brethren, Burlington, by the Rev. Preston J. Miller.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville WV, Grant County.

Lawrence W. Lower Sr. 63 of New Creek, died Sunday August 21, 1994 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born May 6, 1931 in Bayard, WV, Grant County, he was the son of the late William H. and Laura E. (Devers) Lower.

Lower was a self-employed timberman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Nancy Hanks Post #3518 VFW Keyser.

Survivors include his wife, Norma J. (Harris) Lower; one daughter, Darlene �Susie� Amtower, New Creek; one son Lawrence W, �Larry� Lower Jr., New Creek; four brothers, Franklin D. Lower, Keyser; Cecil Lower, Charles Town; Clinton Lower, Baltimore, Maryland; Edward Lower, Brookesville, Maryland, and four grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, WV

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Thorn Malcolm.

Mrs. Ada L. Likens 75 Of Williamsport, WV died Thursday at Kings Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg. She had been residing with her daughter, Mrs. Norma Bartles, of Martinsburg.

Born Williamsport, WV she was the daughter of David C. Lyons and Cora E(Snyder) Lyons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Likens, in November of 1979.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Bartles is another daughter, Miss Betty Lou Likens of Baltimore, Maryland: two sisters, Mrs. Lois Cassady, here, Mrs. Mary Legore of York, PA; two brothers, Malcolm Lyons, Lahmansville, Baker Lyons of New Creek and three grandchildren.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Harness Run church of the Brethren with the Rev. Carole Cosner officiating. Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.

Sue H. Layton, 91, of Bayard, died on Monday 21 Feb 1983, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.

She was born Oct. 30, 1891 in Bayard and was a daughter of the late Emma Boring Kitzmiller.

She is survived by her husband, Elgin Layton; two sons, John P. Layton of Cumberland, Md., and George R. Layton of Bayard; five grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren

The body is at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland, where friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Anderson and the Rev. Ray Rodeheaver officiating. Burial will be in the Bayard Cemetery.

Virgil F. Likens,62, of Mt. Storm, died Friday at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Born at Bismarch on April 25, 1923, he was a son of Milla (Cosner)Likens and the late Frank E. Likens of Bismarck.

Mr. Likens was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Local 66 of the Operating Engineers Union of Pittsburgh, Pa.

A U.S. Army veteran of World WarII, he served with the 75th Infantry Division. Mr. Likens was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6735 of Mt. Storm and Keyser Post 9 of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his widow, Jewel (Kurtz) Likens; two daughters, Chaplain Arbutus Likens-Carlisle, Stoneham, Mass; and Ms. Drucilla Likens, Franklin, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Cosner, Mrs. Audrey Hanlin and Mrs. Ruth Cosner, all of Mt. Storm; and two granddaughters.

Services were conducted Monday July 15, at the Arnold-Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg by Chaplain Arbutus Likens-Carlisle, the Rev. John Walker and the Rev. John Moyer. Interment was in the Cosner Cemetery.

Mrs. Lula M. Liller, age 79, of Laurel Dale, died July 13, 1982, at her home.

Born at Streby, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Arbogast) Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver S. Liller.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur W. Liller and James A. Liller of Laurel Dale and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Brown of Keyser.

Also surviving are six brothers, Myrl Evans, Guy Evans, Julius Evans and Lyle Evans, all of Old Town, Md., Martin Evans Jr, Detroit, Mich., and William Fraze, Ft. Ashby; a half brother, Leonard Evans, Ft. Ashby; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Scott, Cumberland, Md., Mrs. Dessie Varner, Cresaptown, Md., and Mrs. Lettie Sites, Petersburg.

Mrs. Liller is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 16 at Rotruck Funeral Home in Keyser. The Rev. James Heckman officiated. Interment was at Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

Charles H. Layton, 80, of Petersburg died Sunday, March 13,1983, at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Born May 30, 1902, in Grant County, he was a son of the late Joseph H. Layton and Rosa (Alt) Layton. He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Layton was retired employee of Shawnee Mill, Inc. of Petersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Reatha (Reel) Layton; one brother, Emory G. Layton, Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon (Wednesday) at 2:30 PM at the Petersburg Church of God with the Rev. Douglas Cline officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Petersburg Church of God Building Fund.

Lucille Lyons, 75 of Hollywood, Maryland, formerly of Upper Tract, WV, died Wednesday March 21, 2001 at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D. C.

Born on March 01, 1926 at Martin, WV, Grant County, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna R. (Michael) Lyons. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Lyons on January 27, 1985; a daughter Eva "Nicky" Rendina; and a sister, Nina L. Arnold.

Mrs. Lyons was a retired schoolteacher having taught for many years in both West Virginia and Virginia. She also served as Director of Headstart in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was a graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV. Mrs. Lyons attended the Hollywood United Methodist Church, Hollywood, Maryland. Previously she attended the First Baptist Church, Petersburg, WV and the bon Air Baptist church, Arlington, VA.

Mrs. Lyons was a member of the Retired Schoolteachers Association; Friends of the Library and the Extension Homemakers, Franklin, WV and the BPW, Upper Tract, WV

Surviving are two daughters, Patti Anderson and husband, Jimmy of Hollywood, Maryland and Melissa Mae Thompson and husband, Jimmy of Mechanicsville, Virginia; one brother Glenn Lyons and wife, Doris of Martin, WV; two sisters Janet Marion Bishop and husband Morris, Utica, Michigan and Mae E. Lyons of Antioch, WV; six grandchildren; Michelle, Jennifer, Andy, Lee, Briscoe, and Layne; two great grandchildren; Taylor and Brooke.

Born April 20, 1902, in Bismark, WV, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Stella (Moreland) Cosner.

Preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Likens, on October 18, 1969, she was also preceded by one son, Virgil F. Likens; one daughter, Beatrice L. Cosner; one sister, Beulah Kitzmiller; and two brothers; Marvin Cosner and an infant brother Lorenza Cosner.

Mrs. Likens was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren at Bismark, WV. She had
taught Sunday school for several years.

Surviving are two daughters, Audrey V. Hanlin and Ruth E. Cosner, both of Mt. Storm, WV; one sister Rachel Rippey of Mt. Storm, WV; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great �great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16, at the Locust Grove church of the Brethren, Bismark, WV, with the Rev. John Walker and the Rev. Angela Cosner officiating.

Leo K. Likens, 64, of HC 84, Box 49-C, Keyser, WV, died Monday January 04, 1999 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.

Born may 15, 1934, in Grant County, WV, he was a son of the late William Henry and Ethel Charlotte (Smootz) Likens. He was also preceded in death by his first wife; Zelda I. Toots" (Burgess) Likens on September 02, 1990; and by one brother, Odell "Buck" Likens.

Mr. Likens was employed as a truck driver, having been employed with Spencer Trucking, D&W Trucking, and most recently with Centofonti Trucking. He formerly attended the Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary F. (VanMeter) Likens; one son, Randolph Likens and wife Linda, Keyser, WV; one daughter, Debra Biddle and husband David, Keyser, WV; a step-son, Danny Healy, Charleston, WV; two step-daughters, Doris Riggleman and Lorraine Armolt, both of Westernport, Maryland; two brothers, William H. "Junior" Likens and Emory Willis Likens, both of Keyser; two sisters, Lessie Barbera, Keyser, and Madeline Cannon, Antioch, WV; four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home chapel, Keyser, on Thursday, January 07, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Herman L. Balies officiating.

Interment will be in the Davis Cemetery, Antioch, WV

Andrew H. Leatherman, 75, of Antioch, died Friday, March 27 1987, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV.

Born in Knobley October 09, 1911, he was the son of the late Jacob and Sarah (Feaster) Leatherman.

Mr. Leatherman was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church and a licensed pilot.

Surviving are one son, Raymond A. Leatherman, Antioch, WV; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Doll, Keyser, WV and Mrs. Leona Lyon, Antioch; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

Services were conducted in the Antioch United Methodist Church Monday afternoon by the Rev. Paul Suder. Interment was in the Knobley Cemetery.

Virgil A. Leatherman of Littlestown died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at The Brethren Home, New Oxford.  He was 85.

Born January 12, 1917 in Antioch, WV. He was the son of the late Minor and Mary (Hardy) Leatherman.  He was the husband of Ethel (O'Brien) Leatherman to whom he was married for 62 years.

Mr. Leatherman was a member of the Walnut Grove Dunkard Brethren Church, Tanneytown, Maryland, where for many years he served as minister and elder. 

He was employed by Aristocraft in Littlestown, PA for 38 years

Surviving are two sons, Dwight W. Leatherman, Gettysburg, PA and Douglas D. Leatherman, Aurora, Illinois; a daughter, Shirley a. Miller, Aspers, PA.  Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph C. Leatherman, Frederick, Maryland and Charles E. Leatherman, Wauseon, Ohio, and a sister, Myra Rotruck, Winchester, Virginia.  He was predeceased by a brother, Garland Leatherman and a sister, Irene Harris.

The funeral will be held at 2:p.m Tuesday at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown, PA.  Elders Frank Shaffer Jr. and Paul Nell will officiate.  A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, PA.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Rick Smith, Scott Leatherman, Brad Leatherman, Bill Altoff and Douglas McCleaf.

Marylea Leatherman, 70, formerly of 33 N. Water Street, Keyser, WV died Friday, June 22, 2001 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Born on September 17, 1930 in Dorcas, WV, she was a daughter of the late John Edward and Eula Ethel (Stewart) Thorn. Her husband, Charles G. Leatherman; a brother, Richard Thorn; and a sister, Ada Ditton, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Leatherman was a homemaker and a member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Charles "Chip" Leatherman and wife, Rachel, Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Rodney L. Leatherman and wife Ruth, Antioch, WV; three brothers, Henry Thorn and Ernest Thorne, both of Burlington, and Otis Thorne, Antioch: five sisters, Idella Barr, Rig, WV, Viola McAvoy, Burlington, Goldie Haggerty and Shirley Cathell, both of Keyser, WV and Gladys Dodds of Fulks Run, Virginia; six grandchildren, Renae Mitchell, Jennifer Biller, Cheryl Morris, Cindi Leatherman, Katie Leatherman and Jonathan Leatherman; and two great grandchildren, Hannah Sager and Brooklyn Mitchell.

Born May 23, 1919, in Arthur, she was the daughter of the late Blaine and Lucy (Hall) Keplinger.

Mrs. Lahman was a member of the Calvary Baptist Temple, Rig.

Surviving are her husband, Arnold W. Lahman; tow sons, Keith W. Lahman and Wayne O. Lahman, both of Petersburg; three daughters, Elaine F. VanMeter and Sharon I. Feaster, both of Petersburg; and Nancy L. Carr, Keyser; one sister, Evelyn E. Kessel, Maysville; two brothers, Virgil H. Keplinger, Maysville; and Glenn Keplinger, Petersburg; and 13 grandchildren.       She was preceded in death by one son.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.       Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Temple by the Rev. Mildred B. Lahman, 71, of 337 South Main Street, died yesterday in University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.

She was the daughter of the late Burns Barr and Nora (Simmons) Barr.  Her husband, Stanley C. Lahman, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Burns Lahman and Miles Lahman, both of Winchester, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Smith, Winchester, and Mrs. Wilma Smith, Charlottesville, and six grandchildren.
She was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the Chambers Funeral Home after 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Elizabeth High Leatherman, 90, of Junction, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, Md.

Mrs. Leatherman was born Feb. 27, 1909, in Purgitsville, W.Va., the daughter of Charles Willard and Nella Maude High High. She was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

She was married to Ellis Ross Leatherman, who died Jan. 20, 1982.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., with Pastor Glen R. Hamric officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of the service at the funeral home.
