The history of this car has began in 1963. In that year GAZ produced certain amount
of cars for export to the Europe. But for some reasons not all of cars were exported
and the decision to sell excessive cars on the internal market was done.
So, 9
of this - export edition cars were delivered to my city. And only one had this
unique color (sea wave green). For a city with the more than million population and
traditional soviet deficit for all including cars this quantity was ridiculous
indeed.
The situation arose a lot of speculations and undercover movements. And the decision
on distribution of those cars were done even by the City Committee of Communist Party
. But, as soon as my family had a power and respect the best car with the
best color went to our family.
In September 1963 this car fist time
entered our family backyard and since that time belongs to it. The
majority of time the car spent in garage. It happened because there was no need for often use
of this car. For
everyday purposes there were company's cars, even though that cars were used for
majority of personal family needs. Happened so that this car drove mostly only
in holidays and for picnics. Exactly that's why there are lot of good feelings
and memories connected with this car, because this car united our family in most
remarkable days.
During all periods of staying in garage and also during
maintenance the car was under appropriate and professional care of my father, who is
highly experienced engineer in field of Mechanical Engineering. Only owing to
him this car still delight people who watching it.
Also here is one interesting fact. In different sources
I have found that model GAZ 21us were produced from 1965 but my car bears this
model number and was produced in 1963? (I can prove it by original docs). If
somebody may explain me this I would be
very grateful.

Features.
Here I would like to list main features that doing my car so unique.
1.
Excellent conditions. I have met a lot of cars, which were called by its owners
as 'excellent', but indeed they where far from it. In my case it is really so,
just look the Gallery.
2. Fully (!) original
configuration.
3. Mileage of 40 185 miles (or 64 672 km) at least
this numbers were on speedometer when I have left my car in garage at July
2001. (Now I am working abroad and nobody driving it).
4. Original
black colored steering-wheel. Which is resists solar radiation in contrast to
white colored steering-wheels.
5. Original gearbox with 'three on the tree'
gearbox shift.
6. Original transistor receiver with FM Band (!).
7. There
were no bumps. The body is excellent.
8. Original and also unique color. Why
unique? Because I didn't see any GAZ 21cars with such color. There are lot of green,
blue
or dark blue but not sea wave green. And also the car body still has its
own -original (from 1963) color coating.
9. Not any additional decorative elements.
The present design is fully original as it was created by designer in 1963.
10.
Not any rust harms. First of all due to the soft climate, secondly due to the
garage storage and in-third thanks to my dad, who coated all bottom and hidden
parts by special antirust polymeric coat.
11. Original (for export edition
cars only) transistor ignition
that prevents contacts burning, makes start easy and prolongs spark-plugs life.
12.
Original interior. Even carpets on the floor are from 1963.
13. Original
antitheft lock (delivered with the car from GAZ!) for gearbox shift.
14.
Original size and type tires. (On most internet pictures of GAZ 21 I did
not see original tires!)
15. Plenty of original spare parts (new
engine, new original back axle, new springs, new head and back lights,
generator, carburetor, new ignition distributor, new original(!) theft signalization,
gearbox and lot of other small spares)
After this list you may begin to
suspect that I am cheating, but you are wrong. This car is exists in reality,
belongs to me and this is also one of the reasons why I am remains anonymous. By
the way I am engineer, male and 31 years old .

Nicknames.
From the beginning of its age this car bore different nicknames given by my
family members here are some curious of them: 'Green Crocodile', 'Holly Cow',
'Terrorist', 'Grasshopper' and of course 'Gas-guzzler'. And every time all this
nicknames were pronounced with kindness, cordiality and even with some
proud.

Word
'gas-guzzler'.
This name appeared in the beginning of the 70 th during the World Oil Crisis. And was directed to the
old-timer autos of 50-60th, because of its high gasoline (benzine) consumption.
And another reason for giving this name to the site is the play of words.
Gaz-gazler bears in the beginning word - GAZ that is the abbreviation to the
Volga GAZ 21 Manufacturer (Gorkovskiy Avtomobil'niy Zavod). So, for all this and
for insatiable appetite in gas consumption this becomes a nickname for my car.
The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition.
Gas-guzzler n. Informal An
automotive vehicle that gets relatively low gas mileage.
Oxford Pocket
Dictionary. Guzzle v. (-ling) eat or drink greedily. [probably French gosiller from gosier throat]

Also in US there is the Energy Tax Act of 1978 established a Gas Guzzler Tax on the
sale of new model year vehicles whose fuel economy fails to meet certain
