Fonts can be a fun way to add interest to a web page as long as using common fonts, but must remember these finer points with regards to choosing fonts.

Some tips with regard to choosing fonts

Is font size readable? -Use at least a 10-point font to achieve the best possible reading performance. Research has shown that fonts smaller than 10-point elicited slower performance from users.

Example:

12 Point font

According to some of the search engines, there are now over thirty million documents on the Web. This means that almost every topic is covered in many locations.

10 Point font

According to some of the search engines, there are now over thirty million documents on the Web. This means that almost every topic is covered in many locations.

8 Point font

According to some of the search engines, there are now over thirty million documents on the Web. This means that almost every topic is covered in many locations.

Use familiar fonts: Use either a familiar serif or sans serif font to achieve the best possible reading speed. Do not mix serif and sans serif fonts within the text, because it may decrease reading speed.

Does everybody have that font? - Normally all fonts have not been loaded on all machines.  Your page may look fine on your machine, but if the visitor doesn't have this particular font on their machine, a default font will be seen.  While it won't hurt the content, it may affect the alignment and definitely the look of the page.

RULES ABOUT UPPER CASE - NEVER TYPE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS!  IT IS DIFFICULT TO READ, AND IT INFERS THAT YOU ARE YELLING.

Underline- Never underline text. An underlined passage indicates a link and will frustrate visitors.

Colours

Color is a great tool for web design.  Colors can inspire, calm, or agitate user so need to choose them carefully.  There are certain things must consider when choosing colors for a webpage.

Some tips with regards to choosing colours

Color Combinations - Certain colors do not work well together.  They may even play tricks with the eyes.  Colors that choose should coordinate well.  In addition need to make sure that color does not interfere with visitors' ability to read the information on pages.

Too Many Colors - Never use too many different colors on a page.  Try to choose a theme and stick with it.  It will be easier in the long run.

Printing - If user needs to print the page?  If so dont use dark background and white letters.

Backgrounds - Patterned backgrounds can play tricks on the eyes and make text difficult to read.  Animated backgrounds can make page too busy and text unreadable.
