Fear and Loathing
The pounding in Dantkae Alijhieri's head never seemed to stop. Sure, he could put on a smile or laugh with his siblings and father, but, when it came down to it, the corners of his vision were always blurred. He could never quite get rid of the nagging sensation that came with having the wounds on his wrists and ankles healing, taking away the chance that they might let just enough of himself out to ensure that he would never have pain again.
Dantkae lifted first one paw, then the other, watching in supreme apathy as rivulets of crimson red spilled from their depths. No, no, they weren't deep enough. Whether that was a conscious effort on his part or not, he could not say. Perhaps it was simply the type inherited from his mother working through to mess with his mind, perhaps it was not his place to die. After all, why would he want to send himself to hell so early? Why not wait as long as possible, why not delay such cripplingly fearful eternal torment?
But the two halves of his personality clashed so many times throughout the day that, sometimes, one side won out, if only for a moment. That usually lead to one of two things: bandages wrapped around scabby paws, or new wounds to be bandaged at a later date.
