The highlands are very different of the coast : climate is much fresher and rainier, with a luxury vegetation. There are numerous properties that produce fuits and vegetables, such as bananas, pineaples, tomatoes, potatoes...

Along the unique road that goes to the small highland villages (total of 16 km), you can stop at the Mango viewpoint, where the view on all the southern Isabela is wonderful.

In the village of la Esperanza, you will be able to buy home made jam from the Women Assocation OMAI.

From there, you can walk and observe the local fauna and flora.

Getting there

You can go there by bus, leaving at 7 a.m. in Puerto Villamil, in front of the market. The bus takes a roundabout route and you can stop wherever. You can get back between 2 and 3 p.m., depending on the way you are. Ask to the people if you speak spanish.

You can also go there by taxi, for about 15 USD for some hours.
