Mourning Cloak - Nymphalis antiopa. Sighting: Mount Baldy Wilderness, White Mountains, Arizona. When: May 2001. Description (top of wings): Dark purple-black with blue spots and a light yellow band along back of wings. (Under wings): Dark brown with whitish band.
Host plants: Willow and Aspen trees.

Pale Crescent - Phyciodes pallida. Sighting: Mount Baldy Wilderness, White Mountains, Arizona. When: May 2001. Description of wings: Yellow-orange and black bands with a large black median spot near the hing wing.
Host plants: Thistles
Sagebrush Checkerspot - Chlosyne acastus. Sighting: Granite Rapids, Grand Canyon, Arizona. When: March 2001. Description of wings: Bright orange and black markings.
Host plants: Rabbitbrush and Desert Aster.
Hoary Comma - Polygonia gracilis. Sighting: Mount Baldy Wilderness, White Mountains, Arizona. When: May 2001. Description of wings: Orange and brown spots on top of wings. Under wings have tan and brown markings to blend in with their territory. There is a small white "comma" on side of wing.
Host plants: Currant and Gooseberry.
'Siva' Juniper Hairstreak - Callophyrs gryneus siva. Sighting: Mount Trumbell, Grand Canyon. When: May 2002. Description of wings: Green, with white and orange band on both fore wing and hind wing. Black spots near back of hind wing with small tails.
Host plants: Common and Alligator Juniper.
Wing of a Pipevine Swallowtail - Papilio polyxenes. Found: South Rim, Grand Canyon, Arizona. When: June 2002. Description of wings: yellow and orange spots along a dark blue wing. This particular wing came from a female due to only one row of orange spots. Males have two rows of orange spots.
Host plants: Dill, Celery, Parsnips, Umbels, Turpentine-broom.
