main page about myself
meet my husband family & friends my cats my dog travels
Being a military spouse is not always easy.  There are many sacrifices that we make while our loved ones serve in the Armed Forces.  I am often left alone while my husband serves this great nation.  Deployments are the hardest part of the Navy.  It is not just the 6 month deployments, but also includes all of the work ups to get their ships ready for sea.  When my husband served on the submarine we hardly saw each other.  He was always out to sea and would often only port on the weekends.  Submarine life in general was difficult.  There was no reliable communication between us while he was deployed.  No phone calls until he ported.  No e-mail while underway.  It was a sad and lonely life of writing letters and praying for his safe return.

Being a military spouse means being willing to rearrange your life at a moment's notice and move to just about anywhere.  Thankfully for us we are both adventurous and open to traveling.  Of course, we miss our family and we try to see them as much as possible.   Being a military spouse also means leaving your circle of friends behind each time you move and making new friends in a new location.  Fortunately, I never had a problem making friends wherever we lived.  The first person you meet when moving to a new place is a military spouse.  She is your best resource with regards to the best restaurants in the area, where to get your hair done,  best doctors, best places to shop, etc.

"Home is where the Navy takes you" and you will have many homes.  We moved 4 times in the last 5 years.  We were stationed in Athens, GA;  Groton, CT; San Diego, CA and are currently stationed in Corpus Christi, TX.

Being a military spouse is a sacrifice I'm willing to make because my husband loves his job and his country.  I am always proud of my husband and the good that he does for  people around the world.  He is my hero.  We will most definitely recommend our children to serve at least 4 years in the military to support their country and develop leadership skills.
