Our 30 foot "Nomad" by Skyline.
This unit was built in 1989; we bought it in 1991.  Some years earlier we had determined that we wanted to do some "serious" travelling, and spend a bit of time as volunteers for the U.S. Forest Service.  We started looking at trailers somewhat larger than the 16 ft Aristocrat we had at the time.

At a used RV show in Indio, CA we saw a 5th wheel with the lounge over the hitch - a "sky-lounge" - with the bedroom in the rear.  We liked what we saw, and started looking for that layout.  Found that they were not all that common.

Eventually 'tripped-over' the one we bought as a "For Sale by Owner" in Twentynine Palms California.  The previous owner had to deliver the rig for us - it would be another six months before we had a suitable tow vehicle.

As seen from the other side.  I didn't climb too far up on the rocks for the earlier picture.  That is a 48W PV panel for power.  The extra 'pole' beside the front stone-guard is a temporary CB antenna.  It worked.  Note that both the lounge and the bedroom have three-side ventilation.  It does help in warm weather.
Set up at Bell Campground in Joshua Tree National Park, southern California.  Pit toilets available, no water.  The trailer has 40 gallon tanks.  We stayed for a week over Thanksgiving; cool days, cold nights.  Close enough to home that we were able to dump the holding tanks when we returned.

We put in five summers as volunteer Camp Hosts at Diamond Lake Campground (USFS) in Oregon.  The awning faces west across the lake, and was extended when we arrived in early May, and rolled up when we left in September.  The extra shade-cloth extension really helped.  Can just make out the clothes line on the rear bumper.
From mid-ships - by the frig - looking forward.  The dinette makes into a double; the couch in the lounge folds down for two 'friendly' people.  The mantle clock - upper right - has full Westminister chimes.  It stays up there when we travel.  For scale: the TV is a 13 inch unit.

Set up in a canyon campground in northern California.  Nice and quiet - about 3 miles off Hwy 395.  No charge.  Although there is a developed spring in the campground, it's not 'drinking' water.  The tripod under the hitch wasn't doing much to stabilize the rig.  The site sure didn't qualify as 'level'.  Again, the PV panel kept us in power.
From the lounge looking aft.  Kitchen/ dinette, then the hand basin and wardrobe opposite the bathroom, with the bedroom all the way to the rear.  The combination of no 'bedroom' wall in the bow, and two good sized mirrors on the dinette wall give a very spacious area to live in.

The awning extension is from "hardware-store" shade cloth.  We added a bolt-rope to fit the open slot in the roller, and a pocket on the other side to accept a two-part steel tube.  (Wire fence top rail!)  Three adjustable posts, rope, and pegs complete the job.  (Yes, that is a stringer of trout.)
This is Samson; he makes an excellent door-bell.

The next page shows some changes and modifications we've made.
