No, it wasn't "dress up like a famous painting day", this is one of the sculptures of J. Seward Johnson, Jr. representing famous impressionist paintings in 3D.
It's part of an exhibit called "Beyond the Frame: Impressionism Revisited" at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Click on the picture to go to the museum's website and learn more.
The picture doesn't do the sculpture, which stood over 20 feet high, justice. I only hope the exhibit will tour to the west coast so I can get a better look. If you're anywhere near D.C. or somewhere that this exhibit visits, I suggest making the time. |

Here's the obligatory shot of the Wahington Monument. What do you suppose the guy who designed this was thingking? Probably, "That Washington...what a (bleep)!" We also came across the Moroccan Embassy, which we thought would be near and dear to some of our friends, so here's a look at that. |

Next we took a spin through the Natioal Zoo, which is a part of the Smithsonian.
Like most good zoos, it had a great assortment of animals, including these ones.
Unfortunately the bat house was pretty dark, so you'll just have to pretend that this is a picture of the bats below... |

Boy, they really know how to make a guy feel welcome in this place. And we and out so much better than the grinning guys posing for pictures in front of Jones Compost Heap or Nagle Urinal.
