About Gaines, Michigan
The village of Gaines is located in southwestern Gennesee County, approximately 20 miles from Flint. There are more than 400 residents living within the village limits.
Fun facts:
- Gaines, which was first settled in 1836, was incorporated as a village in 1902.
- Gaines has its own fire station, but is part of the Gaines Township Fire Department.
- Gaines has its own police officer.
- Gaines Station Library, opened in 1998, is located in a former train depot built in 1884. The library is part of the Gennesee County Library system.
- Gaines Elementary was formerly a Kindergarten-12th grade school, until annexation by the Swartz Creek School District in 1962.
- The post office was moved into its present location, a new building, in August, 1967.
- Gaines Peace Park, located next to the Gaines Station Library, was dedicated in summer 2002.
