| Chapter Fifty Seven Manage the country with Correctness, operate the army with Surprise Tactics, (Heng: See Sun Tsu's Art of War) obtain the world with mundaneness, how do I know all these things are true? Through this: If there are too many things the masses are prohibited from doing, then the people are in true poverty; as more intelligent people and leaders arise, it only signifies the country is already in chaotic conditions; as more creative people with different skills appear, many strange and unique phenomena will arise; if an indefinite number of laws needs to be implemented, thievery and robbery is already increasingly prevalent. (Heng: Imagine as more copyright laws and better technology are implemented, what's the use? Pirates always develop much grander technology than current orthodoxies to rise above them. So do hackers. There is a saying, "The dao rises one feet, the evil rises one yard".) Therefore there is a wise ancient saying: "I adopt Wu Wei and the masses find their own goals; I love quietude and the masses find their own laws; I do nothing and the masses find their own riches; I have no desires and the masses find their own simplicities." (Heng: In current modernity, with the implementations of endless laws and policies to push for 'Economic success', the country is bound to destroy itself. The people will have no place to go and will gush through the law and policy matrixes which try to subdue them. Such can only lead to the eventual burst of the Economic bubble and enhance its predetermined tragedy.) |
