| Chapter Fourty One The Greater Man once learns the Dao, will be hardworking to act according to it; The Middle Man once learns the Dao, will merely know its profoundness and divinity; The Lower Man once learns the Dao, will surely mock loudly at it. But I say, if the Dao is not laughed at by the mediocre man, it is not called the Dao for nothing!! Therefore there is saying that goes: "The Enlightened one is someone who looks stupid, advances into the Dao but looks like retreating, adheres to the Intangible but looks like according, practices the Highest Virtues but looks like plunging into the abyss, attains the Greatest Understanding but looks greatly insulted by others, spreads the Widest Virtue but looks like never enough, builds up his Virtue but looks like stealing from others. His Manifestations are real but he is empty and untraceable, he looks solid and stable but has no pointed edges, becomes the Greatest Man but realize such potential very late in life, speaks the wisest words but makes little sound, contains the Greatest Form but is in fact formless. The Dao is hidden and has no name, if the man adopts the Dao, he who knows how to borrow can fulfill all accomplishments. |
