| Ah Heng's Daoism Page |
| Chapter Twenty Four One who has already claimed establishments, will not look for further achievements; One who is already a bowing servant, will not look for further improvements. One who thinks he has seen it all will not gain true illumination, One who thinks he is always right will not gain correct understanding. Hence one who claims to have established something, will not eventually have great accomplishments; One who is proud of personal abilities, will not eventually have real enduring deeds. A man of the Dao, understands the meaning of "extra food and excessive deeds". When things remain stagnent and reified, the man of the Dao does not linger for long. (Heng: that is why I hate Confucianism, the small 'dao' of humanity, which can easily be reified as meaningless rituals over the years.) |
