Myths and Misunderstandings of Red Wine
Expensive so Better!! Cheap so Bad!!
The market is saturated with so many varieties of wines that it is difficult to decide which one to buy. It is difficult to judge which wine is actually better or worse apart from buying them one by one and tasting them.

Fortunately there are many
good books available in the bookstores that you can buy, so as to learn the names of the better wines on the shelf and single out the mediocre ones. After much reading, you would certainly be surprised to find that some of the less expensive wines actually are better in quality than certain expensive ones!! (whose sellers simply raise their prices to gain more profits from sales) To sum it all up, price is not necessary a factor that determines quality.

But of course, good old wines with great potential to develop complex tastes in the future are definitely more pricey than those fine young ones... But on the other hand, fine young wines might taste just as good as well!! Hence it is up to the discretion of the wine-drinker to decide which type of wine he wishes to buy, and whether it suits his personal tastes. But don't be a wine snob!

Other concerns:

Wine is only for Classy People
Cmon! Anyone can enjoy wine! And the ones in stores are actually quite cheap!! Costing slightly more than $20, one bottle can last you for one to two months if you drink sparingly, and about three weeks if you drink a bit everyday. And how can you miss them? They are of good quality too!!

Wine contains Alcohol so its Bad

But so are other alcoholic drinks like Hooch and Tiger Beer! Health experts recommend that one should drink not more than
3 glasses of wine or 2 cans of Tiger Beer everyday. And if you just drink one glass of wine (with the standard wine glass) with your dinner or just another glass at night for contemplation, whats the harm? Just consider how many cans of Tiger Beer you can devour when you go cheong during weekends and you would have drunk more than the limit of alcohol already.

Will I get Addicted?
Yes and no. Yes if you drink more than the recommended of 3 glasses everyday and are compulsive to drink more, then sorry you are addicted not only to wine but
alcohol itself. No, if you just drink under the recommended level of 3 glasses per day. Although the alcohol level of wine is between 11%-14%, the low content you drink from the standard wine glass prevents you from taking in too much alcohol.

WARNING:
If you are suffering from depression and are compulsive to drink, then stay away from wine please. Dont ruin the name of wine by using it as a mean to solve your psychological and physical problems. Go look for other forms of liquor.

Recommendation for Beginners:
Although wine should be drunk plain, I believe that it would be good to start drinking red wine mixed with some soft drinks in a 1:1 or 1:2 proportion (I would get starings from the experts if they hear this!).

This concoction not only dilutes the alcohol level, it also makes red wine much more drinkable and enjoyable. I still do so all the time when my mood is right! Soft drinks that go well with red wine is 'Sinalco' and 'Cherryade' and the color blends well too. Other soft drinks can be tried but please respect the color and taste of the red wine. If you like, you can also add some ice cubes into the glass...  and you would have
a tasty cocktail and still feel the high!! :-)
