| 'Konami World' (as it's commonly known) Or Wai Wai World (Japanese Name) Story The lovable pair of Konami Man and Konami Girl are entrusted by Dr. Cinnamon with the task of rescuing 6 other Konami superheroes from their bondages so that they can join forces and fight against an evil force that has invaded Konami World. Special Features The 6 superheroes are characters coming from the great games produced by Konami. They are Simon Belmont from Castlevania, the giant ape King Kong from King Kong (looks like Dongkey Kong from Nintendo?), Mikey from Goonies (Goonies was a popular movie made into a game by Konami), Goemon from the Mystical Ninja, Maoi Head from Gradius and Fuma from Getsu Fuu Ma Den. Respectively, these superheroes are locked up in unique worlds corresponding to their games: Goemon in medieval Japan, King Kong in a futuristic robot city, Simon in the Gothic setting of Castlevania, Mikey in the underground caverns (where the Goonies explore), Maui Head in Easter Island, and Fuma in ancient mythological Japan where the legend lives. What a group of superheroes!! Not only is Konami World very richly designed, this game is great because you can also play with a friend in the two-player mode to help each other out! At first, you can only play as Konami Man and Konami Girl, but you will gain more companions as you rescue them from their corresponding worlds. In each stage, you would have to defeat a mini-boss to obtain a key to release the character locked up there. After that, you are free to switch between characters and use their unique powers to further your cause. It is necessary to plan your adventure in a purposeful sequence as some characters could only be rescued by others, while some stages could only be cleared by gaining certain powerful items. There are a lot of weapon upgrades for each of the characters as well. After you rescue all 6 characters, you will finally end up with a group of 8 superheroes to challenge the final stage of the game! The finale consists of two portions. The first part plays like the top-down shooting format of Salamander where the heroes set off on a plane and flies off into outer space. You can either choose the Gradius Vic Viper or the familiar Twin Bee plane. After some exciting shooting, the heroes would finally land on the infested planet where the evil force resides. The second part plays like the normal game where the heroes have to travel to the core of the planet to destroy the �ultimate evil� that has plagued Konami World. Hey, the music sounds familiar and last king looks like... the Alien Heart from Contra?! Konami World is certainly a classic of all classics. The gameplay is brilliantly designed and the game thoroughly enjoyable. The only pity is that I have yet to play its sequel, Konami World 2, which has even more refined graphics and better gameplay than its predecessor.
